Three video games are set to get movie adaptions according to recent reports.  The Hollywood Reporter state that Sega has partnered with Picturestart to create movies based on the rather old IP’s,  Comix Zone and Space Chanel 5.

Comix Zone was released in 1995 for the Sega Megadrive / Genesis and was a beat ’em up in which the character punched through the pages of a comic. Playing as Sketch Turner you had to fight your way through the pages of the comic to defeat Mortius, a villain  who – surprise surprise – want’s to take over the world.

The movie version is currently just titled “Zone” which seems a bit silly when the key feature of the game is that you are playing in a comic. The protagonists for the movie will be a  “a jaded comic book creator” who seems to be based on Sketch, and they will be joined by a ” a young, queer writer of colour”, so that’s going to upset the gammons. Both will be “sucked into the final issue of his popular series, must put aside their differences to stop a dangerous supervillain from sowing complete destruction. In the process, they wittily explore the ever-evolving art of storytelling itself.”

The Space Chanel 5 movie, now called just “Channel 5” will feature a fast food worker who will save the world “using the one thing that unites all people on the planet: our love of silly viral dances.” This does sound like someone wants to cash in on the videos found on Tik-Tok, and it will probably be hideously out of date by the time it hits the silver screen.

Talking of things that are past their sell-by-date, there’s also a Days Gone movie in the works.  The game was released in 2019  and Sony seem to label a big disappointment and cancelled the sequel despite selling 8 million units.  Outlander‘s Sam Heughan is said to be up for the role of Deacon with Vendetta Productions teaming up with PlayStation Productions to create the movie.

Perhaps if the movie does well we might see Days Gone 2 after all, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
