Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will be dropping on 16th November, just a couple weeks after Modern Warfare II’s launch in October and tying in with the latest game from Infinity Ward.

Warzone 2.0 will tie in directly with Modern Warfare II. Built on the same new iteration of the IW game engine, there will be deep ties between MWII and Warzone 2.0 with cross-progression and shared tech. It will also be more of an extension of the regular MWII multiplayer thematically, and is set in the fictional Republic of Adal called Al Mazrah.

It’s much more than just a new map, though, taking the opportunity to revisit and revise a lot of the core concepts within the battle royale genre. For example, there’s an alternative to the traditional shrinking circle for the late match play as multiple enclosures will be used to contain players instead of just one circle. The Gulag has also been revised, though still gives players the chance to get back into the fight with tense 2v2 fights – you can also hunt down an AI Jailer, take him down and steal his key in order to escape.

In the moment-to-moment play, the map will feature plenty of waterways and excuses to hop into a boat for a bit, while ground vehicles will zip around the roads and off-road, but will need refuelling – do you risk getting ambushed at a gas station?

Looting for new gear will remain a core part of the game, but you can also find Buy Stations around the map where you can buy gear, snag limited equipment, buy your pre-prepared and customised weapons, or (just as in Warzone 1) buy back a downed teammate.

Now, there will be AI fighters within the Warzone, but instead of replacing human players, they will instead be dotted around the map and defend certain key points. You can engage them or avoid them, it’s up to you – they won’t pursue you if you try to escape. Some locations will be known as Strongholds with locked doors and plenty of AI to overcome with high-end loot as your reward.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a reimagining of the hugely popular 2009 original and sequel to the 2019 series reboot, making it a remake sequel of a remake sequel. The game will come with a sweeping new single player campaign, with tons of over-the-top set pieces that will include underwater combat, explosive assaults from 30,000 feet and tense stealth missions.

It will be joined by a new COD multiplayer and a returning “evolved” Spec Ops co-op mode that will have your squad taking on advanced AI in top-secret missions.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be out on 28th October 2022 across PlayStation, Xbox and PC. The first PlayStation-exclusive open beta test will be kicking off tomorrow 16th September, giving players the first chance to play Modern Warfare II multiplayer.
