The official teaser trailer for the The Last of Us TV show adaptation has been released by HBO, giving us a good two minute look at how Naughty Dog’s classic PlayStation game has been translated to the “small” screen. The Last of Us will be coming to HBO Max in 2023.

Fans of the original video game (and the weeks-old PS5 remake) will be able to spot plenty of plot beats from the story, from the incredible prologue that sets up the world and Joel’s character, through to how the world looks after the fall, to how the Left Behind DLC story has been brought into the broader tale.

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have taken the leading roles as Joel and Ellie, but there’s a great cast throughout. Storm Reid will play Riley Able, Nico Parker will be Sarah, while Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman will appear as Frank and Bill, the two friends of Joel who are met on the journey.

Since it will be a while until The Last of Us TV series is ready to watch, you might be tempted to get another playthrough of the game in, whether that’s booting up the PS4 remaster, dusting off your copy on PS3, or grabbing The Last of Us Part I, which came out at the start of this month.

Calling it “The remake we never thought we needed”, Jim said in the 9/10 review that it’s “An impressively gorgeous remake of a bonafide masterpiece. Just don’t expect that hefty price tag to bring much more than cosmetic feeling changes to this emotional narrative.”
