A handful of games are leaving PS Plus Extra & Premium this month, October 2022, coming to the end of the cycle in the subscription game library service. Strangely, given the time of year, two of the three are sure to be popular Halloween games for people that like zombies and a bit of horror.

Games leaving PlayStation Plus Extra & Premium | October 2022

Here’s what’s leaving PS Plus Extra this month. The time is up for the original PS3 Red Dead Redemption games, which were a part of the PS Plus Premium Classic Games library via PS3 game streaming. The original Red Dead Redemption is hailed as an all-time great, while the standalone Undead Nightmare expansion flipped the script with an undead plague ravaging the Old West.

From the PS Plus Extra library, SOMA is the game leaving the service. The 2015 horror game was described in our SOMA review as having “the DNA of movies like Alien, 2001, Sunlight, and Event Horizon, with a splash of the original Dead Space and Bioshock, but brings plenty of new ideas to the table.”

All three will be departing the game libraries next week:

  • Red Dead Redemption (PS3) – 17th October 2022
  • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (PS3) – 17th October 2022
  • SOMA (PS4) – 18th October 2022

What’s new for PS Plus Extra & Premium Catalogues in October 2022?

Sony’s now unveiled the October update for the PS Plus Extra and Premium game catalogues. You might be disappointed at a lack of spooky games, but there’s a metric ton of Assassin’s Creed, a shedload of Dragon Quest and a boatful of Yakuza remasters. See the full October update here.

What’s the difference between PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra and Premium?

The PlayStation Plus relaunch has now rolled out around the world, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.

  1. I definitely thought Ghost of Tsushima was leaving in October from the image. I just haven’t got round to playing it yet
