The PS Plus December 2022 free game line up confirmed [Updated]

Mass Effect Legendary Edition

The bundled PS Plus Essential December 2022 games have been confirmed, with a trio of freebies coming the way of subscribers to any tier of the PlayStation Plus subscription service, from Essential up through Extra and Premium. These will be the games available through Christmas, and I reckon getting the epic sci-fi RPG Mass Effect trilogy remaster is a pretty good gift to unwrap if you’re waiting until then!

Update: Sony has officially confirmed the lineup.

When are the PS Plus December 2022 games coming out?

Traditionally PlayStation Plus’ free monthly games have always been announced on the last Wednesday of every month at 4.30 PM UK time with the games going live the following Tuesday morning. This means we can expect Sony to confirm the free games coming to all tiers of PS Plus will be confirmed tomorrow on Wednesday 30th November, and will then be made available on Tuesday 7th December.

What will the PS Plus December 2022 games be?

The December 2022 PS Plus Essential games were originally leaked by the tried and tested source of billbil-kun, a member of French deals site Dealabs. They have an excellent track record going all the way back to the middle of 2021, accurately leaking the games from both PS Plus and Xbox’s Games with Gold. That’s set to continue as Sony has now confirmed the three games.

Here’s the three games that they have revealed:

  • Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PS4)
  • Biomutant (PS5 | PS4)
  • Divine Knockout (PS5 | PS4)

Mass Effect Legendary Edition was the long-awaited remaster of the original Mass Effect trilogy, making graphical improvements for the newer era of consoles and making some gameplay improvements along the way. It scored a great 9 out of 10 in our review:

BioWare has done a fantastic job of bringing the Mass Effect trilogy up to meet the standards of 2021. While it’s still a bit rough in some areas, and there’s quirks to how they’ve retrofitted some elements into the oldest of the three (which is still inferior in gameplay feel), this is the definitive version of the landmark trilogy you remember.

Biomutant is another 2021 game, coming out in May last year, though garnering less favourable reviews – currently sitting on an OpenCritic score of 67. The game’s unique blend of character progression and open world has now been enhanced for the new generation consoles in September, also rounding out some of the game’s rougher edges in the process.

Finally, Divine Knockout drops you into the shoes of a small-but-mighty god, brawling with other players in 3D multiplayer action.

Can I still download the November 2022 PlayStation Plus Games?

Absolutely! The PlayStation Plus games for November includes the excellent Souls-like Nioh 2, the co-op QWOP-like puzzling of Heavenly Bodies, and LEGO Harry Potter Collection. All three are available to grab right up until the December games are made available.

What’s with the whole PlayStation Plus relaunch?

The PlayStation Plus relaunch took place back in the middle of 2022, transforming the PS Plus we once knew into a three tiered subscription service that bundles in and expands what was once PlayStation Now. The classic PS Plus is now called PS Plus Essential, giving access to online multiplayer gaming, cloud save backups, exclusive offers and at least 2 free monthly games. PS Plus Extra then adds a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games into the mix, while PS Plus Deluxe and Premium (depending on your region) adds older PS2, PS1 and PSP game emulation, and game streaming for PS3 and other titles.

I'm probably wearing toe shoes, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!

  1. Oh, that’s a shame, the rumours were better than that… Don’t get me wrong, Mass Effect is excellent, but I don’t have time to play games again, however well they may be remastered. At least there’s nothing added to my backlog…

    • I haven’t played the first two Mass Effect games and was tempted by the trilogy but other games to finish, now I’ve got the time so will definitely give it a go.

    • What were the rumoured games?

It’s rare PS+ gives me a game I’m actually interested in these days, but I’m more than happy to play the ME trilogy for the first time as its best version. Pitty it won’t get a look in until after I’ve completed TW3 PS5.

      • Rumoured was Kena, which has been on my wishlist for quite a while now, and some other games I felt interested in at the time, but can’t remember now.
