Larian Studios have announced that Baldur’s Gate 3 will exiting Early Access and getting a full release in August 2023. You can currently play Act 1 in Early Access, with Act 2 and 3 coming for the full game.

The Game Awards played host to the announcement trailer, pinning the world’s hopes to save everyone from having Mindflayer tadpoles in the brains. There were also more than a few mimics, which are great to see in pretty much any D&D game.

The real show will be next week, though, with Larian Studios hosting a special Panel from Hell on 14th December. This is going to give a much deeper insight into what Larian has been working on for Patch 9 and presumbaly how that will lead through to the full release.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access since late 2020, with nine big updates since then that have gradually improved and expanded the game, gearing up for release in 2023. A lot has changed since 2020, chiefly the platforms that the game is coming to – while it’s still on PC, Stadia is on the outs. There’s no confirmation of a console release, but it wouldn’t be too unreasonable at this point.

In our first impressions from the Baldur’s Gate 3 early access, Nick wrote, “While it’s rough and ready, I have to say I’m really enthralled by the experience so far. Baldur’s Gate 3 has tons of depth and enjoyable enough gameplay that I’m willing to look past the bugs of early access. It was quite frustrating at times but still forgivable. The good experiences were more than enough to make up for the bugs and these will only improve over time, making BG3 one of the best in-depth RPGs in a long while. Things can only improve from here on out and I can’t wait to see what comes in chapter 2.”
