Square Enix shared a new trailer for Final Fantasy XVI during The Game Awards, confirming that it will be coming out on 22nd June 2023 exclusively for PlayStation 5.
Set amidst the six realms that make up Valisthea, Final Fantasy 16 promises an epic medieval fantasy adventure, that’s sure to tap into the continued popularity of the Game of Thrones series – as hinted at by the accents.
There’s some gorgeous vistas across Valisthea, many of which are dominated by vast crystals, but war is starting to consume this land. Some characters are able to wield the crystals’ power, including the Dominants of Bahamut and Odin who represent these deities in battle, but it’s this fella named Clive that’s the main protagonist facing off against the powerful Eikons, summoning on his power of revenge and the god Ifrit.
Final Fantasy 16 will be a PS5 exclusive for six months after its PS5 launch, meaning that it could arrive on other platforms at the end of the year or in early 2024, depending on when it does actually launch. Final Fantasy 16 is only slated for a PS5 release to start with, so it will likely appear on PC via Steam and/or Epic after that point. There could be secondary terms to keep it a console exclusive for longer, but we’ll have to wait and see.
