Rounding out the latest State of Play was a Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League gameplay deep dive from Rocksteady Games. The game will be hitting PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 26th May 2023.
The video showcased snippets from a mission in which the Suicide Squad battled against the mind-controlled version of The Flash to try and rescue Lex Luthor.
Getting around the world looked plenty fast with grappling hooks and acrobatic swinging, Speed Force teleport ability for Boomerange, a jet pack for Deadshot and King Shark leaping around with little jet thrusters, allowing the four characters to zip around, diving in and out of combat with the various enemies infested by Brainiac’s purple mind-control stuff. You’re looking to chain these abilities together in the chaotic battles.
Each one looks to have both ranged and melee abilities, plenty of splashy attacks as they rampage through the city to try and blow up a large artillery cannon to rescue Lex – seems he tried to take down The Flash all on his own. Of course, artillery down, there’s still The Flash to battle.
Wonder Woman made an appearance at the end of the trailer, but further to that Penguin appears as the arms dealer, and upgrades from Hack, Toy Man and Gizmo.
This is a bit of an action RPG with a gear score determining your strength and power, just like in a Destiny or similar. Every gun in the game is upgradeable as well. You can play solo with co-op bots alongside and being able to swap characters, or go in up to four player co-op.
Post-launch there will be new playable characters, new weapons and new missions. A battle pass will also be released that includes purely cosmetic items.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been in development for what feels like forever, with the last game that developer Rocksteady Studios produced being Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015. The game had long been rumoured – sometimes as a Superman game – before it was eventually announced in 2020 for a 2022 release. That slipped back to early 2023, and eventually settled on 26th May 2023.
So, what do you think?
