Lance Reddick has passed away aged 60

Lance Reddick, star of Destiny, Horizon, and numerous TV shows and films, has passed away aged 60. It is reported he died suddenly of natural causes at his Los Angeles home.

“Lance will be greatly missed,” his publicist, Mia Hansen, said in a statement. “Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.”

Reddick’s break out role was that of Baltimore police lieutenant Cedric Daniels in The Wire but more recently he starred as Albert Wesker in the Netflix Resident Evil series and Charon,  the hotel concierge at The Continental Hotel in the John Wick movies.  He was in the middle of a promotional tour for John Wick 4.

Reddick has also been the star of the Destiny franchise since it’s launch in 2014, voicing the stoic Commander Zavala. In of the most recent seasons of the game he took centre stage and brought a humanity and warmth to the Commander as the game explored his tragic backstory. Reddick was a great fan of the game often interacted with other fans on Twitter, responding to requests to act out scenes as Commander Zavala.

Players have been congregating around his character in the Tower to pay their respects.

Reddick also played Sylens in the first two Horizon games for PlayStation, playing a rather more devious and angry character.

His distinctive voice means it will be difficult to recast these characters.

  1. “distinctive voice” is definitely right. Instantly recognisable whatever he was in, just from the voice. And he was in so many things I’ve enjoyed. Destiny (along with the also distinctively voiced Shoreh Aghdashloo), Horizon (showing the awful main character how it’s done), kind of terrible but entertaining Netflix adult animations, the wonderful Fringe, and even in American Horror Story as Papa Legba (voodoo afterlife receptionist type?).

And he seemed to enjoy the job and his fans.

  2. Absolute legend, his engagement with his fans was fantastic. Eyes up, guardian. RIP.
