What We Played #595 – Resident Evil 4, Tchia & TWD Saints & Sinners

It’s been an interesting little week in the gaming world, and with GDC going on over in San Fransisco there’s all sorts of interesting things happening, new deals being made, and the first glimpses of a bunch of new games to salivate over in the coming months.

Steve has been hammering Resident Evil 4 Remake. He’s down to the extreme difficulty ones which look next to impossible in terms of time restrictions. He says, “I’m looking forward to seeing how speed runners get the time down even if my aged skills may prevent me replicating them for the platinum.” He continues, “Alongside that I played a preview build of the promising Candle Knight and picked up Have a Nice Death and Vernal Edge for some roguelike and Metroidvania indie fun.”

Nick P has also been on Capcom’s horror wagon beginning by playing the original Resident Evil 4 in prep for the remake. On the side, he hit Infinite rank in Marvel Snap (seriously impressive) and played a bit more Dead by Daylight.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Combat

While he’s had a busy patch at work, Nic B played Tchia for review, and disappointingly came away from it a little disappointed. He told us,  “I also tried some It Takes Two with my fiancé, but she’s not an avid gamer and it was surprisingly tough! So, I settled on the the usual Pokémon Go and Marvel Snap. Good games, would recommend.”

Aran has been playing Midnight Suns and that is it! He’s really enjoying it! Meanwhile Jim has played more Wo Long this week, saying, “I continue to enjoy it despite a pesky PS5 bug that has reset my stage progress on more than one occasion. Enjoying Team Ninja’s take on historical characters who have appeared throughout my gaming life thanks to the Dynasty Warriors franchise”. He’s also been playing lots of Marvel Snap. “I’m only rank 50, mind, but it’s still proving loads of fun – each match feels like its own brainteaser or puzzle, with the added risk/reward factor of snapping, bluffing, and knowing when to retreat.”

Atelier Ryza 3 story

Miguel has played Atelier Ryza 3, a bunch of the Freelancer mode in Hitman, plus a bit of Fortnite. Talking about Freelancer mode he says, “It’s really addictive, genuinely the most impressive exploration of roguelike gameplay I’ve seen from a game that isn’t just another sidescroller or procedural FPS. Missons are always like 10-30 minutes max so its so easy to fall into a “just one more” loop. I wish it wasn’t so punishing, though – there’s hardly any sense of meta-progression or permanent upgrades. You can and will lose every weapon or piece of equipment you find or buy, even the ones they reward you as level-up rewards. And you lose money so frequently. I had 20K currency (a lot), and then had two unlucky failed missions that dropped me all the way down to like 4K (barely anything)”

It has obviously been some Destiny 2 for Tuffcub, but he says it was “very half heartedly and I really can’t be arsed with it at the moment.”

TWD Saints & Sinners Ch 2 Combat

And finally Tef’s gaming this week has consisted of a little bit of Halo Infinite, as well as a little bit of Mario Kart 8 with friends in person, and then some more isolated forays into the flooded streets of NOLA in The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and its follow up Chapter 2: Retribution
