Since it was announced, a Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Xbox One release has been requested by fans of the sci-fi series still playing on last-gen hardware. Developed by Titanfall and Apex Legends developers, Respawn Entertainment, this sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order picks up where we left off with Cal Kestis continuing his planet-hopping saga with the Sith Inquisition hot on his heels.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now coming to Xbox One, but when is it coming?
For a studio best known for its work on first person shooters, Respawn wowed gamers with its seamless shift between genres, crafting a memorable chapter in the franchise’s rich tapestry of lore. With the game having launched, some of you may be asking where the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Xbox One version is and whether it’s still coming?
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Xbox One and Game Pass release
The short answer is, surprisingly, yes! EA boss Andrew Wilson has just announced that they are working to port Star Wars Jedi: Survivor back to the last generation Xbox One. However, he has not given any timeline on when that release will happen.
It’s also just a matter of time before Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is playable via Game Pass, with EA Play subscriptions bundled in with Game Pass Ultimate.
This is all particularly surprising as EA and Respawn Entertainment had originally seemed to decide that a Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Xbox One was out of the question, originally releasing only on the latest generation of hardware. The main reason was simply down to Microsoft’s legacy hardware not being robust enough to handle their ambitions for the sequel. In an interview, director Stig Asmussen said:
Bottom line, we learned quickly that we could take advantage of the faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times, etc, to create much larger maps, with more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity […] we wanted to evolve/enhance the experience. This new generation [of consoles] allowed us to do exactly that.
It’s curious because we’re seeing most companies struggling with the last generation of consoles. We’ve seen publishers release cross-gen titles with significant delays to the older generation versions, one example being the recent open-world Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy. At the same time, we’re seeing some companies veer away from the PS4 and Xbox One as the two platforms continue to show their age.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor originally launched on April 28, 2023, and is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. We now know that it’s also coming to PS4 and Xbox One, though Nintendo Switch fans are almost certainly still totally out of luck.
In our Star Wars Jedi: Survivor review we scored the sci-fi sequel 8/10:
“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a great continuation of Cal Kestis’ journey. The story is a little predictable and platforming could be sharper, but this is a sequel that builds on the ideas of the original and there’s real enjoyment to be had in exploring the expansive new worlds, digging into the lore and running into secret boss fights.”
