Ascendant Studios has delayed Immortals of Aveum, their magical first person shooter, by a month. Instead of coming out on 20th July 2023 it has a new launch date on 22nd August 2023. It is coming out for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The team have said that this extra month will allow them to “realize our full vision”, optimising the game further, polishing it a bit more and making sure it’s a “strong launch”.
CEO Bret Robbins writes, “We set out five years ago to ambitiously make an original Magic FPS in a new fantasy world. Along the way, we worked through a pandemic, built a new team, developed on Unreal Engine 5.1 and pushed the boundaries of what we thought was possible. Now, the finish line is in sight.
“The recent feedback to the game proves to us what we already felt: that Immortals of Aveum is something special. In order to realize our full vision, we are going to take a few extra weeks, making our new launch date Tuesday, August 22nd. This will give us time to further polish the game, finish optimizing all platforms, and deliver a strong launch. We owe it to ourselves and to you to get this right.”
Fully revealed back in April, the game will have made its biggest splash during the Summer Game Fest showcase, where a gameplay trailer featured one of the fantasy world’s bombastic set piece moments. This is a first person shooter that would have all the hallmarks of a Call of Duty game, if not for the fact that you’re flinging magical attacks and powers at your enemies. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise when Ascendant Studios features plenty of former Call of Duty and Dead Space developers.
Independently developed, Immortals of Aveum is being published under the EA Originals label that has previously seen the releases of third party games like Lost in Random, It Takes Two and Wild Hearts. While EA Originals was once reserved for shepherding smaller scale indie games out the door, Immortals of Aveum is shooting much higher.
