Indiana Jones is Xbox console exclusive, was coming to PlayStation before Microsoft bought Bethesda

The latest legal battle between Microsoft and the FTC has revealed that Bethesda’s Indiana Jones game was coming to multiple consoles, but will now be exclusive to Xbox on consoles, presumably there will be a PC version as well.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines has been questioned and has stated that when the deal for an Indy game was inked with Disney it was for multiple consoles. After Microsoft swooped in and bought Zenimax, Bethesda’s parent company, the deal was altered so the game would only come to Xbox and PC.

The details are not going to help Microsoft’s case which has continued to insist that it will not make Call of Duty Xbox exclusive. Redfall, Starfield and now Indy were coming to PlayStation but as soon as Microsoft bought Zenimax those versions were cancelled. The legal case has also revealed that a decision has yet to be made for The Outer Worlds 2.

Indiana Jones “will tell a wholly original, standalone tale set at the height of the career of the famed adventurer” and was in very early development when it was announced two years ago.

“We’re developing a new Indiana Jones video game!” MachineGames tweeted. “As huge fans of the franchise, it’s a tremendous honor for us to create a brand-new Indiana Jones game with a completely original story. We’re very excited and can’t wait to share more in the future!”

Since then we’ve not seen anything about the game.

Indiana Jones is no stranger to video games, with Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis one of the many point & click adventures that LucasArts released in the early 90s. There were plenty of other efforts as well, but the next games that really stood out were 1999’s Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine and 2003’s Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb.

Following that, LucasArts were experimenting with new game engines in the mid-2000s for the PS3 and Xbox 360 era, using NaturalMotion’s Euphoria engine and advanced physics and ragdoll physics for a prototype of some classic brawling set in an Indiana Jones game, though after a behind closed doors demo at 2006’s E3, that project was eventually cancelled.

  1. That’s annoying… won’t be playing that then!

  2. I’m annoyed about the fact that Starfield was already in development for Playstation before Microsoft stepped in. I don’t think anyone will be upset about the Indy game though, the movie isn’t being received well.
