Documents reveal Elder Scrolls VI won’t be out until at least 2026

A load of documents used by Microsoft in their legal battle to acquire Activision have found their way on to the internet and they hold some news for Elder Scrolls fans: You have a long wait.

Elder Scrolls VI was announced back in 2018, the same time Starfield was revealed, but the new documents reveal that the game is not expected until 2026, eight years after the announcement. That’s beating The Last Guardians’ delay between announcement and publication by well over a year but still nowhere near the record holder, Beyond Good and Evil 2, which clocks in at 17 years and counting.

The image also confirms that the game will not be coming to PlayStation consoles.

Another document reveals Microsoft indicated to the FTC that Elder Scrolls VI would not be coming to PlayStation over a year ago,  this was published so we know the Indiana Jones game is also Xbox and PC exclusive.

“Xbox anticipates that three future titles — REDACTED — all of which are designed to be played primarily alone or in small groups — will be exclusive to Xbox and PCs,” read a passage in Microsoft’s response.

It seems Microsoft’s plan is that if the game needs multiplayer then they will consider a PlayStation version. If it doesn’t, then it’s going to be Xbox and PC exclusive. They’ve never stated that formerly but reading all the documents and statements that does seem to be the case.

As for Elder Scrolls VI, absolutely nothing about the game has been released, probably because it barely exists right now and it was announced way to early. A cynic might think Bethesda were trying to build up hype and raise their share price  prior to a take over they knew was on the way, but that person would be a terrible, terrible cynic. That’s certainly not what they did.

As for now, all we know is that Elder Scrolls VI it will use Creation Engine 2 as its game engine.
