It’s been a week of gaming contrasts for me, as I juggled playing the rather delightful Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Cities: Skylines 2 for their respective reviews. To be honest, once you’ve got your city to a happy place and want to accrue cash for that next big township expansion, I could have “played” them both at the same time.

With Alan Wake 2 looming large in the release schedule, Nic B has polished off a playthrough of Control. That before he fell into a “proper hole” playing Monster Hunter Now, which he probably meant in a metaphorical sense. “The patches are making the game a lot better, but it has a way to go yet!”
The one that we call Nick P is also keenly aware of Alan Wake 2, but he’s been keeping his fingers busy by trying to get Armored Core 6 finished, and making a little start on Spider-Man 2, which made him very happy.
Aran played Hexarchy for review, “which is a fun 4X deck-building mashup”, before turning his attention to Invincible Presents Atom Eve for a preview and now making a start on Sonic Superstars. Imploring to the gaming gods, he also asked, “Can someone freeze time for a bit so I can catch up with my games please?”
Alas, Ade’s come to the conclusion that “I don’t like Assassin’s Creed Mirage all that much, so I stopped playing it.” Which is kind of disappointing. Thankfully that disappointment was washed away in a flood of arcade racing joy with Hot Wheels Unleashed 2!

Gamoc’s been playing Trepang2 and Ghostrunner 2 for upcoming reviews, as well as his usual Baldur’s Gate 3. Well, he played games when he was able to tear himself away from watching Spider-Man 2 trailers and feeling sad that he couldn’t play it yet.
No such sadness for Dom, who was handling our Spider-Man 2 review for us. He had an absolute whale of a time – or a whale-sized spider of a time – with the sequel, which took the already excellent template from the original game and brought some fresh innovations and ideas to the table. When not out swinging in the big city, he was putting on a fancy hat to check out Meta Quest 3’s next generation take on standalone VR.

And Steve has had his typically voluminous amounts of gaming this week. He played Solar Ash from Game Pass and enjoyed its synth soundtrack, character design and movement, he also carried on with Astral Chain, which has opened up after the opening hours, and he’s been playing Gargoyles remastered on PS5 for review. Oh, and obviously the most recent Steam Next Fest has inundated his PC with demos, though he’s tried to focus mainly on horror in honour of the spookiest month. There’s a few new games added to his wishlist because of this!
Now then, what have you been playing?
