Polyphony Digital is releasing the Gran Turismo 7 SPEC II update overnight tonight, bringing a whole host of new cars, a new circuit in the snow, integrating GT Sophy, making track updates, and so much more to the game.
Update 1.40 marks the shift to what Polyphony are branding SPEC II. Releasing at 6am GMT, and the local time around the world, the patch will bring with it:
- SPEC II Opening Movie
- 7 New Cars
- New Circuit: Lake Louise with 3 layouts
- 3 Café / Extra Menus
- Update to World Circuits
- Gran Turismo Sophy (AI Driver Agent) with Quick Race (PS5 Only)
- 50 Challenges added to Licenses
- Paddock added to Multiplayer Menu
- 4-Player Split Screen Races (PS5 Only)
- Features added to Photos / Scapes
- Updated GT Menu / Dashboard
Let’s break that down a little.
Those seven new cars are:
- Dodge Charger R/T 426 Hemi ‘68 – purchased from Legends Cars
- Dodge Charger SRT Demon ‘18 – purchased from Brand Central
- Lexus LFA ‘10 – purchased from Brand Central
- Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II ‘91 – purchased from Legends Cars
- NISMO 400R ‘95 – purchased from Legends Cars
- Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) ‘22 – purchased from Brand Central
- Tesla Model 3 Performance ‘23 – purchased from Brand Central
Then there’s Lake Louise, which is a new and original course set in a fictional ski resort – that’s right, we’ve got snow races in GT7! There’s three layouts, all of which feature iced roads and allow for night races, with snow tires required to take them on.
Add to this three Extra Menus:
- Extra Menu No. 31: ‘Road-Going Racers’ (Collector Level 30 and above)
- Extra Menu No. 32: ‘Lexus’ (Collector Level 34 and above)
- Extra Menu No. 33: ‘Red Bull X Series’ (Collector Level 49 and above)
And new regular and expert race events at the World Circuits, all of which can be found in the new ‘Event Directory, giving quicker access to all races in the game:
5 new regular events
- World Touring Cars 900: Trial Mountain / Nurburgring / Suzuka Circuit / Autopolis
- X2019 Nations Cup: Interlagos Circuit / Sardegna Road Track / Dragon Trail / Trial Mountain Circuit / Lake Maggiore Circuit
- World Rally Challenge Gr. B: Lake Louise
- Japanese 4WD Challenge 600
- Pick-Up Truck Race: Lake Louise
2 Expert Race Events
- Clubman Cup+: Watkins Glen International / Special Stage Route X / Fuji Speedway / Monza Circuit
- GT Cup Gr. 3: Mount Panorama / Daytona International Speedway / Deep Forest Raceway / Red Bull Ring
Rattling through the rest of the changes and new features, Polyphony are adding new Weekly Challenge events that will earn players special rewards, the GT7 AI project Sophy is being integrated into quick races on PS5, and there’s 50 more Challenges added to the Licenses for you to master.
Online, the ‘room’ screen in meeting Places has been replaced with a ‘Paddock’ parking spot, trying to overhaul the lesser used avenue for online racing at the World Circuits. If you prefer local races, the PS5 can now support up to 4 player split screen. There’s improvements to Photos and Scapes with slower shutter speeds, 30 more Scapes spots. Oh, and the new Dashboard has been built into the main menu to let you better track all the game progression figures.
Phew! That’s a lot of new content and changes. I’m sure there’s even more under the hood, so keep an eye out for the full patch notes as the update goes live.
