Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 won’t release until the second half of 2024, it’s been confirmed in an update by Focus Entertment’s for investors. A release date will be announced sometime in ‘early December’, most likely at The Game Awards.
While there was no firm launch date for the game, Focus and developer Saber Interactive had previously said that they were targeting the end of 2023 for a release. That obviously hasn’t ended up happening, with neither company offering updates on the game’s progress since the summer. Saber is now getting at least another six months to refine and polish the game.
As spotted by PCGamesN, Focus’ statement reads:
“Focus Entertainment will reveal the official launch date of the highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 – the iconic Games Workshop licence – in early December. The game is now poised to ship in the second half of 2024, to provide the time needed to properly polish the game and to ensure the best possible experience. Focus Entertainment is committed to releasing a game that is of the highest quality and that exceeds the expectations of the countless fans of the franchise. Space Marine 2 has already accumulated over a million wish lists to date.”
Space Marine 2 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, a modern sequel and revival to the PS3 and 360 era original, looking to revamp the third person action with much grander spectacle and against the floods of enemies that a Tyranid hive can provide.
Dom got to go hands on with Space Marine 2 back at Gamescom, writing “Combat in Space Marine 2 is unapologetically gritty, focussing on the risk and reward of executions to renew your ability bank. Blood flies out of everywhere, which is little surprise when the Space Marines are packing swords with chainsaws built in and boltguns with ammo the size of your fist. There’s a cool parry move to utilise, and you have to mix up your approaches as you deal with ever-larger Tyranid enemies. They behave as you’d expect, like a flood of alien locusts that swarm towards you, intent on turning you to mulch. Better you do it to them first, then!”
