Directive 8020’s new trailer is all about the ‘movie night’ multiplayer

Directive 8020

Supermassive Games has dipped a toe into live-action trailers to tout the Movie Night Mode in their upcoming sci-fi horror game Directive 8020 – launching on 12th May 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|

Movie Night Mode in Directive 8020 allows up to five players to go through the story together, assigning each player the control of a particular crew member from the Cassiopeia, passing the controller back and forth as characters swap in the story.

At launch this will only be for the local multiplayer, but five-player online multiplayer will also be available via a free post-launch update.

However you play, together or alone, Directive 8020 marks the start of an ambitious new era for Supermassive’s horror games. This is a sci-fi adventure, and it’s a more direct action game than before, in many ways. The game will star Hollywood actor Lashana Lynch who you may have caught in Bob Marley: One Love or The Woman King.

A new feature for the series is Turning Points, which allows you to more easily rewind and revisit key moments in the story. This will allow for completionists to explore narrative branches, or for regret-filled players to go back and undo fatal mistakes, and it applies to Movie Night as well, allowing the group to rewind and try to redo something that went wrong. Alternatively, you can play in Survival Mode for that more traditional narrative adventure feel where all decisions are final.

In group sessions and Movie Night mode, Turning Points adds an extra layer of social tension and excitement. If a favourite character dies, players can collectively debate over whether to accept the consequence… or rewind and attempt to save them, ensuring no two group playthroughs are ever the same! For groups who want to live and die by their choices, Survival Mode locks in every consequence, where all decisions are final.
