Rever Games and Radical Theory have revealed Clockfall, a game that (outside of immediately putting Adele’s Skyfall song in your head) looks to breathe new life into the action RPG roguelite with a distinctive time-based element.
Clockfall makes time a precious resource while battling. Players will be dropped into a loop of needing to battle through dungeons filled with enemies and building up to huge bosses, but it’s a constant race against time that affects what comes next. Looking to bring your time down, you can optimise your movements, spend to upgrade combat stats and make sacrifices in exchange for extra time.
After a run through a dungeon, Clockfall then switches to a somewhat more sedate phase of village defence. Here you put everything you’ve acquired on a run to use for defending the settlement, holding the line against waves of enemies to earn permanent stats, weapons, spells and bonuses.
It’s an interesting direction to take, and we’ll be keeping tabs on Clockfall as it heads first into Steam Early Access sometime soon, and eventually to a full release in 2027.
