Frogwares have set the release date for The Sinking City 2 for 18th August 2026, but that’s not the only announcement that they’ve turned up to the Future Games Show with, as a demo is available on Steam now – grab it here.
Set in 1920s United States and the supernaturally flooded city of Arkham, The Sinking City 2 is taking a few sidesteps away from the original. Where that had more of a gumshoe investigation in an open world, this sequel shifts to more of a survival horror experience, pushing combat, exploration and focusing in with a more semi-open world to enhance the Lovecraftian setting. You will still investigate and solve mysteries though, but it’s more integrated with the rest of the gameplay.
Steve has been hands on with the game recently, and was really happy with what he saw, as Forgwares took a new approach compared to the flawed but enjoyable original. In our The Sinking City 2 preview, he said, “I was left eagerly anticipating more hands on time with The Sinking City 2 for all sorts of reasons. The storyline is intriguing, the importance of the investigation aspects and their effects on the game, and the sheer mechanical thrill of the combat all promise to come together to create a game that represents the full evolution of Frogwares’ approach. With a vague release set for sometime this summer, it shouldn’t be too long before we can get hands on with Calvin’s occult investigation and I, for one, can’t wait.”
Not so vague anymore, Steve.
The Sinking City 2 was announced in March of 2024, following Frogwares successful bid at securing the publishing rights to The Sinking City. The Kickstarter campaign for The Sinking City 2 has a goal of $105,000, with the funds primarily being used as a safety net for the studio, as Frogwares is based in Ukraine. Securing the publishing rights for themselves also allowed Frogwares to return to the first game and release a remaster for newer hardware last year.
