Some parts of Xbox Live are now down – digital games affected

Following on from Sony’s PSN downtime on Friday, Xbox Network (which we all still call Xbox Live) is having its own troubles, with accounts, store and launching apps all labelled as being affected on the Xbox status page (as of 1:30PM BST). While game launching is not acknowledged on that page, there’s many saying on social media that Xbox games are not loading up for them, and the Xbox social account does fess up to this fact.

Xbox notes that sign in has been impacted, that searching and viewing games in the Xbox store might not work, and that launching apps may have problems. The outage was reported at 4:10AM BST (though not visible on the status page until much, much later), but the issue has now been identified as of 1:22PM BST.

The first word of this came from Reddit early this morning (late night in the US), with users complaining of being unable to launch their digital game, some citing error code 0x87e107df, but Microsoft did not update their status page at that time. Additionally, it seems to be relatively sporadic – I could load into several games around 8AM and waited for official word.

Curiously the Games & Gaming section of the status page is all green across the board, though the Xbox Support social account states “We are aware that some users are encountering errors when attempting to sign in, see your game library, or launch games. Our engineers are actively working to mitigate the issue.”

So, uh… about those plans to go all-digital next generation…
