A mass wave of leaked GTA 6 gameplay is spreading across the internet this evening, with video clips popping up and then quickly being taken down with copyright strikes, presumably from Rockstar Games and Take Two. While nothing is confirmed, it lends credence to the veracity of the leaks.
Update 10PM – Better sourcing.
There’s a lot of video clips out and about right now, but there’s also a lot of suspicion that at least some of them are AI, fake or just newly released from older leaks. You’ll be able to find plenty on social media, regardless of digital takedowns. Insider-Gaming is reporting that preview playtests are currently underway, but it’s not known if this is related.
One video shows a basketball minigame, built around increasing a ‘focus’ stat for landing shots. Another shows a bit of driving, with the car having a fuel meter, and Jason getting into a brawl after crashing.
All of this happens just a week and a half ahead of the planned gameplay reveal on 27th August, with a bizarre six hour exclusivity window for Netflix before the same videos will appear on YouTube.
The group claiming responsibility is spoiling Rockstar’s party with a statement that rails against the lack of a physical disc release for the game, digital pre-orders, and says that they will continue to post videos until Rockstar apologises.
This might not be what Rockstar planned, but it probably won’t hurt the game one bit. Grand Theft Auto VI is launching on 19th November and is expected to be one of the biggest media launches of all time, with over a decade of pent up expectations for the game. This has made Take Two rather bullish on the decision to go for a digital-only release of the game, and that will no doubt further Sony’s own decision to end the production of physical media in 2028.
