Google Readies Games For Google+

Google, following on from its Chrome-based web store, is launching games into Google+.  The social network will see titles like Angry Birds appear as part of Google+ from today.

[drop2]”With the Google+ Project, we want to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to the web,” said Google’s Vic Gundotra. “We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life.”

Thankfully, if you don’t want to play games when you’re using Google+, you don’t have to.  There’s a new tab at the top – named Games as you’d expect – and therefore they’re kept out of the way unless you want them.

“You can see the latest game updates from your circles, browse the invites you’ve received and check out games that people you know have played recently,” continues Gundotra. “The Games page is also where your game accomplishments will appear. So you can comfortably share your latest high score – your circles will only see the updates when they’re interested in playing games too.”

Launch games will include the aforementioned ubiquitous avian chucker alongside poker, sudoku and big names like Dragon Age Legends, with many more on the way.

We’ll have more on this once we’ve had a proper look – the tab’s currently unavailable for me personally.

  1. If, as they seem to be suggesting, the updates are only displayed in the specific tab then I’m all for it. Some of the games on Facebook are alright but it’s the constant stream of updates telling me that people are playing them that’s the problem.

    • Well one click and you disable them.

      • But you have to do that for each game, and a few people play a shit ton of them.

Also (and I realise it was a joke) playing facebook games doesn’t make you a twat. The problem isn’t people playing them, it’s the way it notifies everyone about it that bothers me.

    • Alternatively, get less twattish mates :)

  2. *struggles to think of something positive to say about social networks* …erm.. On the bright side it’s competition for Facebook.. :|

    • The campaign to clear up after the riots was started and spread through Twitter and Facebook. There is one tiny example of why social networks shouldn’t be completely dismissed like that

  3. Pixeljunk Monsters Social on Google+, I’m calling it!

    • If they add Co-op then they have a hit. *hohoho

  4. Im changing… :)

  5. Please future, come quick!
We have a whole lot of fun coming up, so please, OBEY me! xD

    • Wait until you’re edging close to your 40th and then I dare you to wish for time to speed up.

      • I hear that. I’m 30 in a few months and life seems to be accelerating away from me!

  6. Wonder if these will eventually appear on the phone apps?
As for Facebook games, I just block the application, that way I don’t see any updates from those friends that do play them ;)
