Are you concerned over the Vita’s 3-5 hour battery life? Well, Sony has some good news for you in the form of an external battery attachment.
SCEA Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, had the following to say:
“If you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns if you have the additional external battery.”

Great, I don’t think the PS Vita’s battery life is much of a problem anyway, considering I only get about 3 hours of battery life from my 3DS even when using power saving features.

Punt the base elements of a great device for what seems like a great price. But then make it clear that to get your worth a certain number of extra upgrades must be purchased. With the earlier news about the high cost of memory cards, and now this i’m becoming slightly jaded.

Agreed with everything except your last comment. People will be grabbing moments here and there to play on the Vita. If they have a more prolonged session it might be at home with it on charge. Let’s be fair, this caters for nearly everyone. It would be unreasonable of us to want Sony to have a battery in there which bumps things up again when most won’t require it.
We’ve all got into good habits with iPhones and the like. They need charging more regularly than older non-intensive mobiles.
What’s great is that people who do a lot of travelling will now be able to play on the Vita for a marathon session without interruption.

Its how business in all areas works, also, the memory cards aren’t high cost. They are expensive, but actually comparable with memory cards of the same size for other devices.. So i don’t really think they’re overcharging there. This is also optional, so not a massive problem for me as I just wont buy it but pack a charger for the train/plane, as many now have plugs, hell, even some busses.

I don’t think this is bad at all. Things like iPhones, cameras etc all have external/spare batteries. You don’t have to buy them though. You can, but it’s not needed.

The battery thing is a bad move. The 3-5 hours stated for life of a fully charged battery on the Vita is with Bluetooth turned off, Wi-Fi off and without 3G if I remember rightly. I imagine the screen brightness will have to be pretty low too. If this is the case then this will almost be mandatory for it for it to be used on the move..
The fact that there is a 3G model proves that Sony know that people want to use it as a portable gaming device.(Not just play on the loo or sat on the couch.) The kinds of games that are being released are not ‘jump in for 5 mins here and there’ types of games so surely a better console battery should have been right up there on the list from the beginning?
With this and the memory cards and the Vita you are looking at well over £300 without any games. Plus whatever else they announce which will not be ‘necessary’ but really will be needed to get the most from the Vita.Then once we have it we will be ripped off with the PSN store prices on the games that will be download only. I imagine that there will be a hell of a lot more of these than Sony will likely mention before launch.
I really want enough reasons to buy one but great games on a portable device does not outweigh the negatives for me.
