Batman At BAFTA: The Bulletpoints

I have nearly two hours of audio from yesterday evening’s Batman: Arkham City event at BAFTA in London and it is going to take me a while to transcribe. So, to whet your appetite, here are a few key points.

  • The game will start with you playing as Catwoman.
  • There are 400 – that’s four hundred – trophies (in game, not PSN) to collect.
  • The number of fighting moves and subsequently the number of animations for Batman has doubled.
  • The Batmobile and the Batwing do not feature in the game.
  • “The most detailed open world game ever”
  • Each Villain has their own section of Arkham City and each has a graphical theme.
  • Rocksteady were panicking near the end of development as they thought they may have set the bar too high.
  • I have now seen the event that certain websites spoiled earlier today, it finishes with a massive screen saying “Please reset this console immediately – MASSIVE SPOILERS”. Websites spoiling or ill-advised marketing?
  • The best way to play Batman: Arkham City is on a 100 ft cinema screen, sitting in a big red comfy chair sponsored by Dame Judi Dench. Any other set up will just not do.

Stay tuned for the full write up of  ‘Batman: Arkham City’ at BAFTA. I needed to sleep and today I have to make a chocolate cake and then I’ll be all over it like Kris and that PR girl from Sega.

  1. Well, at least I now know my setup can do it justice. ;)

  2. Won’t be buying it after yesterday’s stunt, sorry.

  3. “Rocksteady were panicking near the end of development as they thought they may have set the bar too high”

    I must admit i LOL’d

  4. I am really looking forward to this game. I bought asylum again the other week just to play through it again (game put the second hand price up by £5 as they knew people would be buying it again). Trying my best to keep away from the spoiler – here’s hoping its not Alfred is a playable character

  5. I am glad it is 400 ingame trophies and not PSN trophies as it would probably cause the xmb to crash whenever you try to look at them.

I wonder if they will include an easter egg/pisstake of the spoilers?

If they are panicing over if they have set the bar too high then we are going to get one excellent Batman game. :D I can see why they would panic as the sequel to Batman:AC(if there is one) would be pretty hard to top B:AC if it is excellent. :)

  6. 400 trophies! dear god im barely able to get 40 trophies!
