We gave the latest installment, Call of Juarez: The Cartel a pitiful 3/10, suggesting ‘This is a perfect example of why it’s not always a bad thing when games get cancelled.’
Ubisoft have sent questionnaires out to the poor souls who went ahead and purchased the game and are asking them to rate aspects of the title.
They also ask for opinions on what appears to be an unannounced fourth Juarez game, specifically which set pieces they would like to occur.
The good news is that the list seems to indicate the series will be returning to its roots and heading back to the wild, wild west of days gone by. Techland are also considering bringing back Ray McCall.
The set piece list is as follows:
- Hunting an outlaw in the rocky mountains
- Defending a ranch attacked by Mexican pistolleros
- Preventing a bank robbery
- Rescuing an innocent man about to be hanged up
- Taking part in a shooting contest
- A gun duel in the empty main street of a town against your worst enemy
- Guarding a fort against a group of outlaws
- Helping a man to escape from the sheriff’s office
- Defending a train attacked by Native Americans on horses
- A gunfight in a saloon after a poker game
- Preventing outlaws from pillaging a gold mine
- A fusillade between lawmen and outlaws

All of the set piece list sounds very ‘Red Dead’ to me?
Good idea for them to go back to the wild west setting though – It was the only thing that made the game unique against the rest of the FPS glut & hence why the most recent one was generally regarded as a bit pish.

hehe..yeah..a lot of lit looks like red dead :), it`s kinda sad cause Call of Juarez was i think the game that brought wild wild west to games, at least can`t remember any other in this genre.

I think the western game needs to be shelved for this generation. Red Dead Redemption basically set the bar high enough for it to be the comparable benchmark for all to fall short of. Give it a few years Ubisoft then take your franchise back to the drawing board and bring us something special.
Then again, I wouldn’t mind a Gun sequel, it’s about damn time.

In other words, the people who brought it want it to be a wild west game.
I still don’t understand why they moved the setting from Wild West to modern day generic city.(I can’t remeber what city it is set in). Surely when your franchise is known to be set in a certain setting, you don’t move it to a different one as you risk losing the fans of the first game.
I am glad that they are asking the people who brought what they want to see in the next one as most companies are happy to let the franchise die. More companies need to do this.
It would be nice if Capcom asked us want we want to see in RE6 or Bioware ask us what we want in DA3.
