Cryptic Studios, the makers of Star Trek Online and Champions Online, has sent out a warning email to subscribers. Apparently, they’ve discovered that user information has been accessed by an unauthorised party.
The email recommends that subscribers visit their Star Trek Online or Champions Online websites to reset their passwords. Cryptic stress, in the full notification on their website, that they “have no evidence at this time that any data other than the account name, handle, and encrypted password were accessed for any user.”
It’s always best to be safe though, so get those passwords changed if you’ve ever signed up to any of their betas or free trials.

There was unauthorized access to the databases in 2010 according to Eurogamer, now Cyptic have only discovered it. At least I know they can’t be trusted now.

Ah that explains it then. I thought I was going mad

I got an email yesterday but don’t ever remember signing up to either of those games, not my thing. But this happens every week now, I expect a warning email every 5 days telling me my identity has been stolen.

I got an email from them, but I’m sure I’ve never even played either of those games, so I haven’t a clue how they’ve got my email. Are they a subsidiary of another company like EA or something?

Same here. Not sure what’s going on.

I don’t think I’ve ever registered or played any of the above games either… Little bit confused and worried now.
