Here’s Why Overstrike Didn’t Break Cover At E3

Apparently, the upcoming Insomniac shooter will “stand out” more later in the summer. Sorry, that’s terrible news writing form, giving up most of the story in the first sentence. Let’s start again.

Frank Gibeau, who looks after the EA Partners program that signed Insomniac to their first multi platform console game, has had a word with CVG. They asked him why the eagerly anticipated Overstrike didn’t appear at any of the big E3 showcases and he told them that it’s waiting for some gameplay tuning and extra polish.

It felt like we would stand out better later in the summer once we’ve hit some key milestones and we’re able to show off more

That sounds like they didn’t want the first big public showing of this game to be lost in the noise of a few dozen other huge games on show. It’s also possible, of course, that they knew showing another shooter at a show dominated by the biggest console publishers in the world would probably leave them looking like just another shooter. Either way, it’s difficult to fault his logic.

While we would have loved to see more new IP at E3 this year (or any year, for that matter), it makes sense to spread the showcases around a bit in order to gain maximum impact. What’s another hands-on hitting the web in a week when there are hundreds of hands-on article being published?

EA will be attending Gamescom and traditionally they have a fairly strong showing at the European show so we’ll cross our fingers and hope to see more there.

  1. Also sounds a little like they’re not quite ready to show it off yet.

  2. I doubt this will see a 2012 release if they are not ready to show anything yet.

  3. I can’t wait to see more of this game, i had wonder why there was nothing about it at this E3. The trailer they released at last years E3 got me hyped.

  4. I had forgotten they were signed to EA now, it’ll be interesting to see an Insomniac game in an EA ‘wrapper’. The trailer looked promising and i’m looking forward to seeing more.

  5. I wish they would change the name of the game.
