Get Battlefield 4 Beta Access With Warfighter $70 Edition

Apparently if you go to Origin on a PC, select Genre and then Shooter, you get the above. As far as I know this is the first time Battlefield 4 has been mentioned.

Seems like an utterly bizarre way to announce your new game, but who am I to decide what works best for EA? Looks like you’ll need to buy the Digital Deluxe version too, at $70.

Oh, and if you’ve not checked the site in the last few hours, you might want to see this.

Update: EA have said that if it isn’t on Battlefield.com, it’s not official. The banner on Origin has also been removed and swapped out.

  1. Reading this made me want a refund on Premium.

    • Really? Why? Was it not obvious that Battlefield 4 would come along in 2013 and that Premium was merely an elaborate DLC money spinner?

      • I would of thought we would of had BF:BC3 next year then another BF in 2014.

But yeah i’m with afro, my favourite series has definitely gone the way of CoD and will be a saturated un-original shooter.

Oh well thank god we have games like DayZ.

    • Why would you want a refund? Premium content updates are coming until May 2013 and maybe even a little bit after, BF4 will probably be a late 2013 or 2014 release. Nothing to worry about here as far as I’m concerned.

  2. I wonder if the BF4 BETA will suffer the same audio bug that has plagued BF3 for the last couple of months?

    • Or the same revive and movement bugs from the last 7 years lol.

  3. No, I won’t pay extra for one game to help you test another you cheeky nobheads.

    • Especially if you only get to play Operation Metro only.
Y NO THEY LET US PLAY CASPIAN BORDER ON BETA?

      • Caspian Border was available on PC. Why beta test a 64 man map on 24 man console?

      • There’s the 24 player version of Caspian Border…

      • Yeah but if it works on 64 man its going to work on 24 man. Anyway Metro is a good map.

      • @ Spinster~ Metro is a good map? for real? You clearly know nothing about what separates BF from the rest.

Some clan matches people don’t even want Metro for the fact that it’s an unbalanced map! BF3 has the worst maps in series.

      • I do know what seperates BF from the rest of the games in that genre. I’m not talking about clan play here, I’m talking about normal pubbing with friends. Sure it may be unbalanced but to me I think it’s good fun. It doesn’t seem unbalanced to me anyway, whatever team I’m on usually wins.

  4. I remember the MoH limited edition came with access to the BF3 beta, but it was just for 48hours before everyone else. So i expect this to be bullshit again.

  5. Oh, you mean a two day early access to the beta like Battlefield 3?
    nothankyoi.

  6. So rather than fix BF3, DICE make BF4? Great work.

Not that I’ll be buying, hopefully a new Killzone will be out by then.

    • Fix?

    • ^ Yes fix! The broken knifing system, the disgusting input lag the PS3 has, the sound glitching in and out, aim assist being almost like an aimbot now ( people exploiting it by tapping L1 ), flare and ECM are bugged, Guided missiles on the littlebird is bugged, can’t revive someone if he’s in some bush or something, glitching below the map in Kharg Island, next to ZERO clan support….

There’s more problems, but I cba to list all of them. So yes, FIX THE GAME.

      • Sorry but the knifing system isn’t broken. Working as intended; it’s not supposed to be used mid combat like in CoD, it’s supposed to be used when you attack from behind and that works every time without fail (hold down R2 if you’re unsure). Input lag has been fixed (according to EA/DICE) and I, along with a large portion of the playerbase doesn’t/has never had an issue with it. Sound glitching in and out happens to me about once a week on PS3, and on PC (maybe you’re an xbox player). Never heard of this tapping L1 aim assist business, perhaps you’re right or perhaps you’re making it up. How are flare and ECM bugged exactly? Enlighten me. I don’t have trouble reviving players in bushes, you gotta get close and aim the defib at them you know? Crouching helps.

Saying things are ‘bugged’ provides little to know help in the way of fixing things. Imagine if you were working at DICE and all you got were complaints that “wah wah wah guided missile is bugged on little bird?”. Kharg island is a bad map anyway in my opinion. Recent release of the “Matches” system to combat this lack of clan support (hey at least they are trying). The last patch they released had hundreds of bug fixes, and they are working on another one so sit tight. Whining about minor bugs is retarded, there are minor bugs in every game and at least DICE fix most of the worst bugs. It’s hard to get a game perfect you know.

By the way what platform do you play on?

  7. I like my BF games few and far between, BFBC2 had people still playing it right up till BF3 came out, so quick EA, why am i even surprised by this.

    • Actually, the gap between Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 is going to be one of the longest of any between retail releases of BF games.

BF 1942 was followed by Vietnam in 18 months, then BF2 came 15 months later. 16 months after BF2 came BF2142, before BFBC was released in 18 months to BFBC2 in 21 months and BF3 in 19 months.

Battlefield 4 is bound to be set for October 2013, a full 24 months after BF3’s release. The only reason why people will still be playing BF3 at that point is because of the series’ long-standing tradition of post-release content.

Each game, barring Vietnam which was more a stand-alone expansion and BFBC, which was followed instead by the stand-alone release of BF 1943, has had numerous expansion packs and DLC bundles in the months following release, and because of the title’s own distinctive form of multiplayer which isn’t really seen elsewhere.

      • I dont really count 1942 or Vietnam as full BF games though, 1942 with 4 maps and not that many weapons and nam as a similar kind of expansion

      • you thinking of bf1943 and bfbc2: vietnam.

battlefield 1942 (bf1) came out in 2002 and had 21 maps and battlefield vieatnam was a spin off of it (similar to bf2 and bf2142) that came out in 2004. there was also bf2:mc that came out for ps2 and 360 in ’06.

  8. Give me BFBC3 over BF4 any day.

  9. First they make battlefield 3 a clone of COD, then they clone COD Elite, now we will have biannual franchise COD style releases.

Is anyone at EA capable of an original thought?

    • BF3 clone of COD?

    • I’m not sure how BF3 is a clone of CoD. The similarities are there in genre and setting sure but both games play and feel utterly different from each other. I personally feel BF3 is the far superior game but if I want a but of mindless, fast paced action arcade action CoD provides that, BF3 does not.

  10. Another ‘proper’ Battlefield?

How long did it take the franchise to reach number 3?

    • We never did have a Battlefield 1… ;)

      • Does BF1942&3 count as BF1 due to them having one in the title? ;)
