WeView Verdict: Diablo III

This week you’re being treated to the rarest of things, a WeView double header. That’s right, you’re getting Diablo III’s verdict now, and later in the day you’ll get your chance to share your thoughts on F1 Race Stars. However, for now it’s all about Diablo III, so lets get to it.

As you’d probably expect for a game with Diablo’s pedigree, there was significant anticipation in the build up to its launch. YOURMUMANDME was one of those eagerly awaiting the third entry into the series, so much so that he “was convinced that my life was pointless until I had beta access,” which is a little worrying to be honest. However, once he actually played the game it all fell apart for him, with his attitude quickly turning against the game. He complained that the game’s problems stem from “the new developers and Blizzard’s greed”. Not a glowing review from someone who claims to have “played through Diablo II at least fifty times”.

You’ve got to expect some fire in a game called Diablo.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is Nylon_Angel, who went into the game without ever having played a Diablo title before. In fact they only played the game because it came as part of their World of Warcraft subscription, but that didn’t stop them falling head over heels in love with the game, saying that “from the moment I logged in I was hooked into the story and the game play.” They do, however, feel that the game “will work better on the PlayStation”, which is certainly good for those of you you commented to how eager you are to get your hands on the game on your console.

As with every game, or at least almost every game, there’s going to be someone who absolutely can’t stand it, and for Diablo III that’s OneShotWook. They called it a “Mediocre isometric action RPG at best,” and said the game’s only first was “bringing gold farmers into a single player game.” Ouch. Beyond that they complained of “Awful acting, predictable story, little customization and cookie cutter class options,” meaning it’s safe to say they really didn’t like it.

We’ll finish on a positive note this week, and for the first time in a while I’m going to repost a whole comment. Here’s what BULLofDOOM had to say about the game:

It certainly is not flawless and has had many balancing updates to get it close to perfection. If you want a deep story look elsewhere, but if you like loot and loved Diablo II – get DIII. Pretty much Diablo II with more shiny.

That feels nicely balanced to me.

Now onto the final verdict for the game. Despite the feeling of negativity about the game from some, it only picked up a single vote for Avoid It, while Rent It faired little better with two. While I wouldn’t call Buy It the run away winner, it did pretty well squash its opponents with five votes to become the final verdict for the game.

Finally, it’s time to announce the entrants in next week’s poll. With F1 Race Stars becoming the star later today it’s dropped off the list, while Vanquish didn’t pick up enough votes to ensure its survival. Instead they’re replaced by Ninja Gaiden 3 and, as I’m feeling comic booky today, The Amazing Spider-Man. As always you’ve got until the end of Sunday to get your votes in.

  1. “as I’m feeling comic booky today” – so a normal day then.

  2. Kris, since when do you not feel comic booky? If you say when you are watching Step Up, i will slap you. ;)

I’m surprised at the verdict of Diablo 3 and the lack of the mention of the numerous errors it had at launch. I honestly thought it there was more to it then farming gold or grinding exp. Seems i am wrong. :-/ Haven’t we already covered God Of War on weview?

  3. That’s good PR spin there Kris. Make it out like you are treating us with a double header of WeView when really you probably just forgot yesterday ;)

  4. Ah coping with the hate.In my defense i did say i thought it was mediocre but either way my copies not been touched since about a week after launch.
    Always a good read Tsa.
