Community Chronicle: 08/09/13

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had quite a busy week. It feels like an absolute age since I was sinking hour after hour into Total War: Rome II last Sunday, to get that review put together, and if you think I’m done with Gamescom, then you would be quite wrong. There’s still a fistful of previews to come out of my notebook!

This week we’ve got DuffyBox, who’s still wet behind the ears as the newest member of the community team, and his quite hilarious laptop. There’s nothing quite like chatting to him on Skype, only for his laptop to decide that it’s time to interrupt, and ramp up the fan speed to the absolute maximum, making it sound like he lives in a wind tunnel!

Of course, this is all his own fault, as he’s installed the desktop GPU drivers in an effort to extract the absolute maximum performance from the machine. In fact, I’d say he’s probably overdone it a little, as he often suffers from random shut downs should the laptop overheat. I believe he recently tried to rest the laptop on ice packs, to keep it cool over the summer. It didn’t work.

Even so, look on in awe, as Jack Tretton does jazz hands on his screen, and Duffy reveals the settings he tries to run BioShock Infinite at.

I’m now all out of submissions, so if you have a set up to share, please do think about getting in touch with me on Twitter at @teflon, or just sending an email out of the blue to [email protected]. For the latter, don’t forget to chuck your TSA ID in there, so I know who you are.

Killzone: Mercenary seems to be in everyone’s pocket this week, my own included, but I don’t think many people will have managed to complete it just yet.

That doesn’t mean some people aren’t making good progress with its trophy list, and Crazy_Del went online with B_Cambo, dominating to the extent that they both got their 10-kill streak trophies already!

Aside from this, the number of achievements seem to be quite low this week. Motalla kicks us off with the rather odd statement that he played Russian Roulette with his new Glock… so I can only assume that he won, or he wouldn’t be posting that!

Tactical20 returned to and finished inFamous 2, having abandoned the game half-way through for some reason or other. Whilst blackredyellow nabbed the Jak and Daxter trilogy for his PS Vita, and obtained the platinum for The Precursor Legacy very quickly.

R1MJAW bulldozed his way through the Yakuza 3 story, having just finished Saints Row IV’s platinum off. Interesting point here, which BadBoyBoogie pointed out, where if you play Saints Row IV in co-op mode, some of the activities appear to be quite a bit easier. So if you’re struggling to get certain trophies, grab a buddy!

Speaking of BadBoyBoogie, we’re going to finish with him this week, as he completed his 100th platinum trophy. A fantastic accomplishment, I’m sure you’d all agree, and one made sweeter by saving The Last of Us to be the 100th one.

That’s almost your lot, but you can head over to page two for the fastest platinums board. To finish off this page, we have the usual submission form for photos and accomplishments. Don’t hold back!

  1. Duffybox, I think I’ve got the same laptop with the same crazy fan! I put some arctic silver thermal paste on the main processor, it’s a fiddly job but its helped loads. Apart from the noise and shite battery life the VAIO E’s are lovely beasts!

  2. Erm nice lappy, or in mines case laggy, no way I could play games above 16 bit on it! :P
Surely out of over 6,000 sign ups to TSA there must be a few rigs out there for catwalk duties, admittedly around a 1,000 of those sign ups will be for 3 people that like a title change often!
Nice going with all the platinums chaps, I’ve started giving up near the finish line lately….probably the season of damned awful heatwave.

  3. Which drivers do you use for the PS3 controller? Motion In Joy? I’m always on the lookout with something better to use.

    • In the end I found the 360 controller for windows better, sadly it was a pain to install because Motioninjoy screwed up all sorts of drivers. The 360 controller launches Steam using the middle button, if you let it start with windows, which is a nice feature :)

      • Sadly I’m too cheap to get an Xbox controller when the PS3 one does the job perfectly, I normally use Better DS3 which has a better GUI than MoJ without the horrible ads.
I read somewhere that the PS4 controller works natively on PC’s, which is great to hear.

      • Fair enough, I only bought one because I had a voucher and my laptops got barely any grunt so it only gets used occasionally. Great news about the DS4, hopefully it uses regular Bluetooth.
