Sony have confirmed at their TGS conference that the PS4Â will feature Kinect-like features with the use of the camera. These will include commands to navigate through the operating system, as well as some in-game commands currently confirmed to be coming to Knack.
This news previously leaked as it was included in the product information on Amazon, but it’s good to see that they’re definitely going ahead with it. Don’t expect anything groundbreaking, but it’ll be interesting to see how Knack will support the use of these features.
I think Sony have kept this quiet until now as they don’t want it to seem like they’ve copying Kinect with an inferior voice recognition system. Nevertheless, it should mean that Kinect exclusive features for games might make their way to PS4 too.
The PS4 camera will be available for around £50 at the console’s launch on November 29th in the UK, or two weeks before that on November 15th in the US.

Can someone confirm that I’m not the only person in the world who is interested in buying a PS4 that doesn’t care one bit about voice and facial recognition? Sony please spend more time on other things.
Bilbo_bobbins
I confirm I’m the same as you. I have absolutely no interest in the camera/voice stuff.
Porcupine_I
I think Sony just wants to be ready in case that thing takes off like the Wii last generation.

True, and look how popular Move turned out to be…
Scythegpd
Yep, me as well.
Amount of shits I give about this are zero. In fact negative … I think I’ve got constipation :(

Brought into move on the PS3 and never used. Can’t see why this would be any different.
cam the man
Same hear, not interested in motion control, voice recognition etc.

They have to get a handle on what will be the norm when the next next generation launches.
Complete controller free navigation , be it hand gestures or voice commands.
If they don’t walk now, running later will be hard.
Even if it is perceived as gimmicky or keeping up with the J(xb)ones’s

Not interested in this in the slightest, but it was a major selling point of the XB1, i like how Sony have nonchalantly announced that the PS4 can do it as well.
As though, Yeah we can do it, but we didnt want to make a big deal out of it.

Agreed. Camera can do one! Would prefer to burn 50 notes on scratch cards, lol!

Not bothered either but makes change for Sony to copy Microsoft rather than the other way round (at least lately anyway)

Hardly surprising given that before MS even bought Kinect off that Israeli company the EyeToy was capable of voice commands and the later PS Eye could do facial recognition (including gender and expressions) and voice recognition – as well as voice commands.
