The PS4 was the biggest selling console in the US last month, though the Xbox One sold faster per day with approximately 101,000 every day, reaching 909,132 sales from its release on the 22nd of November until the end of month. While there’s no word on exact PS4 numbers, the console did exceedingly well, selling one million in the US in just 24 hours.
The PlayStation 4 sold more next generation software than other platforms, and had a much higher initial attach rate than PS3 or even PS2. The Xbox 360 was the number one selling last generation (oh, it’s weird calling it that) console, with 647,000 units sold. There’s no word on how much the PS3 managed.
The 3DS is strong too with 770,000 sold in November, and Nintendo’s other console the Wii U has finally started to pick up the pace, selling a staggering 340% more than previous month. Comparatively, that’s not as impressive, as it means it still only managed approximately 220,000 for the whole of November, which means it could be going to way of the Dreamcast with similar sales numbers.
Overall, it’s good news for all hardware, with a 58% increase year over year, and a total industry increase of 7%. That makes it the best ever November – notoriously the busiest month – for hardware sales in the US due to the console launches and an upturn in 3DS sales.
The same can’t be said with software, as it seems people were overall buying less games with a 24% decrease. The top 10 selling games for the month are below, and they show that returning established franchises are where the sales are:

- Battlefield 4 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, PC)
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC, NWU)*
- Madden NFL 25 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO)
- Grand Theft Auto V (360, PS3)*
- NBA 2K14 (360, PS4, PS3, XBO, PC)*
- Skylanders SWAP Force (WII, 360, PS3, NWU, 3DS, XBO, PS4)*
- Just Dance 2014 (WII, 360, NWU, XBO, PS3, PS4)*
- Disney Infinity (WII, 360, PS3, NWU, 3DS)
- FIFA 14 (360, PS3, PS4, XBO, PSV)
- *includes CE, GOTY editions, bundles, etc. but not those bundled with hardware
This all seems like very good news for games, and there’s a definite rise here. Let’s hope the new generation continues this way, and sales increase even more for all platforms, which will mean we have an exciting time ahead of us.

Exactly. Based on time on market PS sold less “per day”.
However they were out a week earlier and sold out almost overnight.
XB1 sold less overall … but did it in less time, so “sold faster”.
Basic maths, selling out 10 items on the first of a 10 day period, means technically you sold slower than a company that sold 4 items in the final 2 days of the same period.
However guarantee all companies would rather have sold the 10 versus the 4.
However I suspect some people on here are going to ignore those basic mathematical principles.

That is a bit of a weird one as it just depends on the timeframe you’re looking at. You could of also had a race between 2 people – Who was the quickest to hand over their money and snatch their console from over the counter.

Loving my PS4 but have one major issue with it. Does it have an eject button? I’ve swiped my figure all over it and nothing happened. I could read the manual but I’m male.

Same problem here. It appears to be a fault with the console but its actually started to work throughout the last few days. I did read people were having problems with it just ejecting the KZ SF disc and mine has funnily enough started working since I traded KZ in so the disc hasn’t been anywhere near the drive for a while. Probably purely coincidental to be honest.

Damn – you think its a fault? Was hoping I just couldn’t find it. Turning the machine on was odd as there are no buttons on that thing. Very futuristic but not very user friendly.

The eject button is under the power button – which aren’t strictly buttons. Or are they called ‘touch sensitive’ buttons? I’m confused! I have to place my entire top half thumb area (whatever thats called) over the bit what I assume is the button like someones taking my finger print or I’m signing in with some biometric type scanny thing. After about 30secs worth of fumbling it finally works. It’s even more difficult than pinging open some drunken birds bra. I still haven’t perfected that technique now in over 15 years worth of random drunken 2am weekend encounters.

aha, I can help. I had this problem and someone told me to hold your finger over the button for 2 seconds. It then comes out.

Ive had no problem. You dont need to press just hold your finger over eject(below power) for a second or two

Yeah it’s right below the power button, it even has the eject symbol on it – albeit a very tiny one.

It makes sense that game sales are down, not alot of great fall games this year, and with nex-gen here its natural that those waiting for a shinny new dust collector would buy less games for their old dull dust collectors. Personally, I decided GTA V would be the last game I buy new until I figure out where my gaming is going next.
