Mike Bithell is a lovely man. Every interaction with him leaves you thinking “what a lovely man.” He’s like the UK indie dev scene’s human embodiment of a reassuring hug. But none of that would be particularly relevant to us here if he wasn’t also a very talented game developer.
Thomas Was Alone has been charming a huge grin out of just about everyone it comes in contact with for a couple of years now and Mr. Bithell’s focus has moved on to his next endeavour. That game, Volume, is a stealthy, near-future retelling of the Robin Hood legend and we’re (not so) quietly hopeful he’ll have another hit on his hands when Volume is released for PS4 and other platforms later this year.
Well, now Mike has sent over some of the concept art for Volume. It’s been created by an evidently sickeningly talented individual called Daz Watford who has an online portfolio here, if you want more.
Here are the Volume concepts:

There’s a good article on wired.co.uk which talks about some of the aesthetics for the character and why they went that way. very interesting read
