There are two big and hyped releases this week, and then a quiet release of a 3DS exclusive starring Yoshi. Nothing on PS4 though, but some treats for last generation consoles, PCs and of course the Xbox One.
Dark Souls II | PS3, Xbox 360, PC | Friday
Masochistic RPG veterans rejoice! From Software’s  much-anticipated sequel is finally here and ready to unfairly push you from high ledges, pelt you with projectiles, and leave you broken in the wake of its hellish boss battles.
Though largely similar to its predecessors, Dark Souls II will be serving up greater player customisation as well as more wholesome and emotive plot. Aside from receiving a facelift, the game’s multiplayer has also undergone a few changes, seamlessly allowing for both competitive and co-op interactions.
Prepare to die again. And again. And again…
Titanfall | Xbox One, PC | Friday
Overtaking Dark Souls II in the hype train sweepstakes is this week’s second heavy-hitter, Titanfall. Developed by former Infinity Ward visionaries Zampella and West, this is the Xbox One game everyone has been talking about.
Titanfall is a completely online multiplayer affair with narrative elements thrown into the mix. Take up arms as either the Militia or RMC in a series of modes, navigating the game’s parkour-enabled warzones.
Of course Titanfall’s biggest attraction is its mechs. These hulking metallic brutes come in a number of flavours and, according to initial reviews, don’t feel unbalanced whatsoever. Titanfall may not be revolutionary, but it’s shaping up to be the definitive next-gen shooter. We’ll have a review once we’ve been able to test it on public servers.
Yoshi’s New Island | 3DS | Friday
Over in the Nintendo corner we have the return of yet another iconic character. For those who remember Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island then be prepared for pangs of nostalgia with the publisher’s latest release.
New Island appears to borrow heavily from the SNES classic, basing itself around 2D platforming and Yoshi’s ability to eat just about anything. It may not be as heavily anticipated as the new Donkey Kong, Mario, or Zelda were but we’re sure Nintendo will do it justice.

Ah, that Yoshi’s Island trailer brought back some fond memories of platforming with a constipated sounding dinosaur on my N64. Good times.
So, Titanfall, what’s that then?

Yoshi’s Island on GBA was a classic, big shoes to fill here!
Kennykazey
You mean on SNES. GBA was a remake.
JR.
Never heard of this Titanfall game. What’s it about? :P

“We’ll have a review once we’ve been able to test it on public servers.”
How other gaming websites have reviewed an online only game before it’s even launched baffles me. The thing could release publicly then be a wreck!
Glad to see you folks have some common sense. Test a game when it can actually be tested in its true environment, how it should be done!
Starman
It had over 2 million players on the beta so the servers have already been tested pretty well.

Wish we could get releases on Tuesdays like the USA instead of Friday. They always get a head start on us.

I’m getting stuck into Dark Souls II right now! It’s very similar to the last, and having experience of the previous titles is proving helpful. Slow and steady is the key to the beastie!
