TSA’s FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Competition – Quarter-Finals Results

This week saw the TSA FIFA 14 Ultimate Team Competition progress into the quarter finals with the winners gaining a place in the semis and the losers being unceremoniously dumped out, just like the England team in any major tournament. Below you will find write-ups for each tie along with the full tournament tree and the fixtures for the semi-finals which will be played in this coming week.

Quarter-Final 1: Amphlett vs. Baggyg (baggyg187)

By the sounds of it, this was by far the closest match-up of the round. In the first leg Baggyg managed to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Rooney and William meaning both players were still well and firmly still in the contest going into the second leg.

Amphlett managed to score first to go in at half-time 1-0 up and scored a 2nd quickly after the break to give himself the aggregate lead. Baggyg had to score again just to take the tie into extra time, which he managed to do towards the end of the 2nd half. So, at 90 minutes the tie was locked in at 3 apiece and heading straight for a deciding overtime match when Baggyg managed to score the winner leaving Amphlett no time to reply!

Final score: Amphlett 3-4 Baggyg (baggyg187)

Amphlett kindly put together the following two highlights reels from the tie using the new PS4 feature ShareFactory, take a look they’re pretty good!

Quarter-Final 2: YungJones vs. GazPhillips (Gazaldo)

As one of the tournament favourites, YungJones took a 60th minute lead in the first leg, which made GazPhillips push for the equaliser. With the focus on attack, this left space at the back which Yung exploited to slot in a second goal and complete the leg 2-0.

Into the second match and Gaz knew there was a lot of ground to make up, so pushed the team out with only attack in mind. This tactic seemed to backfire somewhat as YungJones played counter attacking football, hitting Gaz on the break to take the match 7-1!

Final score: YungJones 9-1 GazPhillips (Gazaldo)

Quarter-Final 3: XBLakie_ChanX vs. Roynaldo

The first match of this tie started off with the two players trading goals until the score was locked at 3-3. At this point XBLakie_ChanX seemed to find their groove and went on to score a further 3 goals to take the first leg 5-2.

Into the second match then and Roynaldo said he’d almost already given up, his head dropped and he conceded a series of headed goals leading to XBLakie_ChanX who took the 2nd leg 6-1.

Final score: XBLakie_ChanX 11-3 Roynaldo

Quarter-Final 4: Dellboy1983 vs. nidasbym (murguia_martin)

Before this match could get started, BerackyWack and Nidasbym had to finish off their round of 16 tie, after only having played 1 leg of it in the previous week. There’s not much of a write-up, but suffice it to say that Nidasbym held out for a 1-0 win in the second game to progress with 4-1 on aggregate.

Into the quarter finals then and nidasbym was to face Dellboy1983. In their first leg Nidasbym won 4-0 which left Dellboy1983 with a lot of catching up to do, but though an all-out offensive saw Del managed to win the leg 2-1, it just wasn’t enough to overturn Nidasbym’s lead from the first leg.

Final score: Dellboy1983 2-5 Nidasbym (murguai_martin)

All this means that the fixtures for the semi finals are as follows:

  • Semi-Final 1 – Baggyg Vs YungJones
  • Semi-Final 2 – XBLakie_ChanX Vs Nidasbym (murguai_martin)

Remember as usual the rules for home/away matches are as follows:

  • Both players host a match, thereby playing a match at home and a match away. The odd numbered match winner hosts first and the even numbered winner second.
  • If the scores are tied after both matches, the player with the most away goals goes through.
  • If away goals are tied, and because FIFA UT won’t go to extra time and penalties, a run-off match is played in, hosted by the even numbered winner in the pair, but with no away goal rule. It’s winner takes all!
  • If even that is tied, keep playing with Golden Goal rules and the next goal wins.

Now, as I said, you have a certain flexibility to the rules. If you want to be as authentic to the Champions League inspired format as possible, then follow the format outlined above as closely as possible. However, it doesn’t have to be. as long as both players agree, we will happily accept for matches to be played out of order, or for one person to host both matches and then have the first to be designated as the runner up’s home match and the second for the group winner’s home match.

Finally a little reminder that in the interests of fairness, ability boosters are not allowed in this tournament. If your opponent uses them, point it out and replay the match.

Please try to get these fixtures played by some time on the evening of Tuesday 20th May and as usual leave all match reports/links to videos in the forum. It’d also be truly awesome at this late stage if you guys can manage to stream these semi final matches, if at all possible please let us know in the forum when the match is arranged for so we can all tune in!

Good luck to the four remaining in the tournament, regardless of whether you win or lose at this stage all four of whom will win some FUT coins!
