ZeniMax Confirms The Elder Scrolls Online Closed Console Beta Starts Tomorrow

The Elder Scrolls Online has travelled down a bit of a rocky road since launch, with delays on console and the ditching on the subscription service in favour of a one time cost of buying the game. The new title The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will be releasing in June on PS4 and Xbox One, but before then a group of players will gain an early look through the console beta, which is going to launch tomorrow.

It is a closed beta and you had to have requested a place, but even if you did do that you aren’t guaranteed a chance to participate. The beta itself will last around four days from the 23rd of April at 15:00 BST until April 27th. Invites have started going out so check your emails, with the advice being to start the download as soon as possible. The reason for that is the download will be bigger than 50GB, and that doesn’t include a 15GB patch.

The full game will be accessible in this beta and this can be shared through streaming or taking screenshots, as it has been confirmed there will be no NDA. There are two megaservers split between Europe & North America, with players having the choice of which to play on. Characters will be unique to these servers and will not carry over to the final release.

  1. Is that really 50 gig plus a 15 gig patch? They seem to suggest it’s more than 50 gig which is why there’s a 15 gig patch. The game won’t fit on a Blu-ray disc, so the extra 15 is the bits that won’t fit.

Sounds like the whole thing is 65GB at most. Not bigger than 50 and then another 15 on top of that.

    Still bloody enormous though.

  2. That 15Gb patch will still be necessary when the game launches as the full game is too big to fit on a bluray disc. I will definitely watch some streams but i don’t think i will be swayed towards this online-only iteration.

  3. I’ve been rather lucky with beta tests of late but unfortunately no email for this. It’d be about 30hrs to download for me so it’s probably for the best anyway.

  4. Grump. No beta invite.

  5. Bah. I can see friends playing, but no beta for me. Annoying, as I still have my imperial edition pre-order waiting from when it was originally announced all those decades (well, it feels like it!) ago.

  6. Whilst it is rather large, it’s to be expected due to the sheer size of ESO although the reasoning behind the 15GB patch is a bit surprising. They couldn’t really justify having it on another disc thus the patch which should be all the latest content. I do hope Zenimax will try to eliminate the confusion between Skyrim and the rest of the Elder Scrolls franchise as i do get a bit annoyed when people refer to it as Skyrim online or the Skyrim online etc..

Word of advice: Horses are rather expensive. When in doubt, punch Molag Bal in the balls.

*This may be an utter lie.
