Just in case you hadn’t realised, the clocks went back an hour this morning, as we signal the end of British Summer Time. Not the end of the famous British summer – that was some time in the middle of July – but the end of daylight savings, with the impending misery of the sky darkening to at around 3 in the afternoon.
Still, I hope most of you were able to enjoy an extra hour in bed this morning.
It’s been another slow week for news – don’t worry, though, Paris Games Expo will sort that out for the week ahead – and so we’ll focus on just two stories. First up came EA saying that they had no plans for remastered games, defying the rising industry trend.
Seeing the reason behind many of these remasters, Andrewww said, “I’d say most of their games were on all relevant platforms anyway, so they wouldn’t reach as many new gamers as Sony does with the former PS3 exclusives on the PS4. And I fully agree, given EA is just as much a sequel machine as all other major players, they shouldn’t take their mouth too full.”
As Starman stated that he’d prefer a sequel any day of the week, cam_manutd replied, “I just got the Uncharted collection and I mainly got it because although I loved the originals I want to revisit them in an upgraded fashion of sorts. Don’t get me wrong, sequels are always better, but in some cases a remaster is cool. Remakes are better than remasters providing something new is added along the way.”
Boeboe, however, said “Would have quite liked a Mass Effect Trilogy remaster but fine, don’t take my money then.” Amidst calls for the original Mirror’s Edge and the Dead Space trilogy, it shows that there could be a market for these games, should EA ever change their mind.
And there was another round of confusion, rumour and counter-rumour, as reports emerged that Kojima has finally left Konami for good. Then Konami said that he hadn’t and that he was just on holiday, or something.
Ron_mcphatty said, “Hmm, so after the update, what the frell is going on?” while hornet1990 asked, “Can somebody fill me in on what the big deal is about this guy because my reaction to this (non)news is ‘who cares’?”
In response to the former, pdannysan13 explained that Kojima was most likely on gardening leave: “I am no legal expert but if someone would force me to not work for any competition then couldnt I demand from them extended pay for my ‘prohibited’ months ? And in the meantime wouldnt I be on the companies payroll but technically not be an employee ?”
Hornet’s latter question had Amphlett leaping off the fence to say, “I know what you mean about MGSV, about it not being something you’re quite bought in to enough to buy but, I would say that I was on the edge for a month or so until I got pushed in to buying it by a mate of mine who loves it. I am now totally and utterly immersed in a wonderful world of tactical sneaking, fighting, base building, weapons creation, soldier stealing and general madness of the storyline. ”
JR. just felt the whole exit was being handled in an immature fashion:
As for the drama surrounding Kojima’s exit from Konami. These are the same people who enjoy squishy boobed action figures, so It’s not surprising how childish this situation has been handled. I’d have more respect for Kojima had he’d announced his parting ways with Konami was simply due to creative differences. He doesn’t have to say more than that. Not saying anything, given his connection to a much loved gaming series, is ridiculous.
But if it was keeping quiet for a few months versus being embroiled in a legal suit? I know which one I’d choose.
It’s been a good week for fans of story-driven adventure games, as both Tales from the Borderlands and Life Is Strange came to a close. Youles and Pixel_nme both finished Telltale’s latest and grabbed their platinum trophies at the same time, while Pixel also managed to finish off his first run through Transformers: Devastation.
JustTaylorNow was somewhat disappointed by the way that Life Is Strange ended though, but Colmshan1990 struggled with the emotional rollercoaster he’d been taken on. Neither could get to the platinum quicker that MrYd though, who staked a claim to the record alongside Defense Grid 2 and Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi.
Hornet1990 was similarly disappointed by The Order: 1886, but his feelings for that game could not have been further from Andrewww’s thoughts on Virtue’s Last Reward, which he said was a quite simply excellent game that he enjoyed on PS Vita thanks to its appearance on PlayStation Plus.
Eldave0 might have been late to the party on Destiny, but he’s just got his first exotic rocket launcher and used it to deadly effect in the crucible, grabbing a triple kill trophy in the process. Forrest_01 is much more experienced in the ways of light, but last week was his first time through the King’s Fall raid, which helped him push past the 300 Light point.
R1MJAW’s been typically busy, with a lightning quick WRC 5 platinum, and he claims he would have the same for The Talos Principle, were it not for the Road to Gehenna expansion trophies being included in the main list – this expansion was separate on PC, but has been bundled together with the main game on PS4.
Rounding off our trophy hunting exploits, Shaggy2Dope popped up with a pair of records. Farming Simulator 2015 on PlayStation Vita makes it three from three, and they were also the first to break out of The Escapists on PS4.
A inferior race is back this week with the latest update to the 2015 trophy leaderboard. Head over to page 2 to see what it’s all about and how you can be counted.
Aside from that, I leave you on this page with the usual submission form.
