Mastertronic has confirmed it has entered administration, though a deal has been agreed with a new investor that should save the company from going out of business. Andy Payne, the current Managing Director, will not be part of the company moving forward but may be called upon as an advisor while the new owners get set up. Mastertronic did have a deal with a previous group of investors, though they backed out of the agreement which led to the company going into administration.
Andy Payne said:
“The new company will focus on flight and train simulation only and I will not be employed by the new company, although I may be asked to advise, and my future is now in my own hands again.”
Hopefully Mastertronic exits this difficult period soon.

At the risk of sounding like an arse, just who are Mastetronic? who? Just who?
I mean, it sucks that another company is going into administration but just what are they known for? I mean, who are they?
Yes, i will be in the corner for being an arse.
Also, who are they?!

They’ve did SubLevel Zero (Steam) and a lot of the add-ons for Just Flight and Just Trains.

And Crazy Cavey for the Vic 20! Most of my early gaming experiences were Mastertronic. Vegas Jackpot made me a millionaire!

Only the company that revolutionised the gaming market in the early 80’s selling affordable games for about £1.99, most other games were selling for about a fiver at the time. Ok the games weren’t great but made them affordable for kids with a bit of pocket to spend on a saturday afternoon. They had a few good titles out over time. It will be sad to see them go after such a long time in the industry.

This isn’t the same company (although one of the original’s founders was involved in the negotiations to buy the name). The original was absorbed into Sega, and the name sold off to the Mastertronic Group in 2006.
While the original did indeed revolutionise the market, I’m not sure the newer Mastertronic actually did anything much for gaming.
Having said that, as The Lone Steven said, it sucks when a company folds.

I hope they get sorted and back on track too. I loved grabbing all their speccy games in the 80s – although they haven’t had great output lately, hopefully they can find their niche again soon :)

Had a fair bit of fun with Mastertronic’s games on the Speccy back in the Eighties.
Bring back Magic Knight!
