Apparently Warner Bros. have something exciting to show us at 2pm today, I wonder what it could be? Anyway, whilst we ponder that conundrum, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens has leaked out, surprising no one in particular.
The Xbox Store has listed the game with a release date of June 28th which I would guess will be near the Blu-ray release of the movie. According to the store listing there will be some new features.
LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens also introduces Multi-Builds and Blaster Battles to the LEGO videogame universe. With Multi-Builds, use available LEGO bricks to open up new paths, then break them apart and re-build them again to open up another! And another! During Blaster Battles, use your surroundings as cover to stand against the First Order.
UPDATE: The trailer’s now been officially posted and added to this post, with a June 28th release date confirmed.
UPDATE 2: Amazon are listing a deluxe edition for PlayStation with timed exclusive content, and it also includes the Season Pass.

I do love Lego games, but I don’t think even I want this. I mean, they are going to be releasing more Star Wars movies right? So what does that mean, a new game every time a sequel comes out now?
I mean, it can of course be done, but what I have found with the ones based upon a single film or property rather than a series or trilogy or something is that they tend to have a lot of the story covered by the game. That’s all well & good of course, but I think it worked better when it was covering a few films & with single references & nods to points in the films.
Maybe it’s just me?

I grew up with the prequel trilogy so I like them as much as the original trilogy.
Sure they have their flaws but at least they were creative which is more than you can say about TFA. The most creative thing about TFA was the crossguard lightsaber.
To be fair, I actually liked the first 45mins of TFA but it all fell apart after that. It just wasn’t good enough overall.
How JJ Abrams keeps getting work, I’ll never know.

JJ Abrams keeps getting work because he is consistent. To most that is consistently good, but to some it won’t be to their tastes (which without making too many assumptions, you seem to fall into that camp).
Personally, I like what he puts out & with TFA, I feel he got the tone of the universe just right. Sure, it might have had a couple of missteps here or there, but overall, I thought he did a great job.
However, I note that you said you grew up with the prequels… For that, I am truly sorry. ;)*
* I jest as I actually quite enjoyed most of the prequels for what they were too. However, Jar Jar was just unforgivable. Why they didn’t kill him off for fan service in the second or third film is beyond me (meh, probably because it would make kids cry!).

Does JJ Abrams get that much work? IMDB lists 21 writer credits (some of those aren’t quite writer credits) and 12 director credits. In 25 years. Not a huge amount.
There are also 44 producer credits. Several TV series that didn’t last more than 1 season. But also things like Lost (enjoyable nonsense), Fringe and Person of Interest (both excellent). He’s also producing Westworld (which sounds like it’s having trouble, which is a shame) and hopefully not buggering up 11.22.63.
So, written and directed a few good things (I’m one of the ones that loves what he did with Star Trek), and produced a lot of things that are at least of a consistent quality (even if the audience isn’t always there).
Star Wars is probably his only mistake. And even then it’s not that bad, just nothing we haven’t seen before. And couldn’t really fail commercially.

I might be in the minority but I thought the film was perfection, I bloody adored it!! I’ve been greedily buying any old Force Awakens shit (the art book is actually quite good) so I’ll happily buy this. Cracking.

Yip, with you on that. Brilliant movie, had everything you would want from a Star Wars movie. Kylo Ren > Darth Vader too. Never thought I’d say that.

But yeh, the whole (young) cast was really impressive. Carrie Fisher struggled to show any emotion with the amount of plastic surgery she has probably had.

I guess I just didn’t like the fact that anyone can pick up a lightsabre and use the force like a pro. In the other SW’s movies, you had to be trained to use the force and earn your skills.
I suppose this is a reflection of today’s society and the need for instant gratification. You can be or do anything with the least amount of effort.

I don’t think it’s about instant gratification at all. Let’s be fair Luke could sense lasers, steer a missile and talk to the dead without doing much more than getting a pat on the back from Obiwan. Anakin could do the pod racing thing, fly a banana starfighter and get Natalie Portman’s knickers in a twist without any encouragement at all. It isn’t a stretch to say that Rey could do some telepathy, take the Falcon for a joyride and use her rage to just about fend off a badly injured Sith after nine years brooding over stories and legends, probably aware of who her father is and likely being descended from the bowl-cutted lady-slayer. Makes sense to me, she’s hardcore and I fucking love her!

It was just far too contrived for me and it didn’t feel ‘right’. Maybe it seemed more ridiculous than it was because there were so many other ridiculous things happening in the second half of the movie, I don’t know?
I know it doesn’t really matter but I’m genuinely disappointed that it wasn’t better. I went in expecting to be wowed but it was just plain lazy.

I don’t usually go for Lego games that much, but this will be a definite purchase. It looks and sounds like it’ll be great fun.

After watching that video it’s got to be a day 1 purchase I think. I don’t think my kids would let me off if I don’t or at least that’s what I’ll be telling the wife ;-)
