Uncharted 4 Delayed Again, Now Out May 10th

This is an odd one. Uncharted 4, as I’m sure many of you are aware, has been delayed a few times, with the most recent date having been in April. However, as Sony push back the release of the highly anticipated game once more, to May 10th, their reason isn’t one of needing more development time.

Writing on the PlayStation blogs, Shawn Layden, President and CEO of SCEA, wrote:

As you know, Naughty Dog is wrapping up production on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End with the game on track to go gold and into production later this month. In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time.

Now, you’d excuse me for expecting Sony to have had the clout and the foresight to be able to get enough discs churned out in time.

  1. With coursework deadlines ramping up around the end of April it’s actually a relief to see this pushed back a wee bit. I know others will be less pleased to hear the news.

  2. Not a problem for me, but it makes not watching the latest trailer much harder.

  3. I just hope they have enough digital downloads as i wouldn’t want to miss out.:)

  4. This is getting ridiculous now, push back after push back, something is off surely. If this game doesn’t blow me away after so many push back, they best write to me.

    • They’re trying not to upset fans by giving new deadlines which are too tight. Sadly, because the internet appears to have a huge tantrum every time there’s a delay, devs are uncomfortable about giving their new deadlines plenty of slack.

Just reading your reply shows why they get concerned about it. You’re damning them already. Be happy that a potentially great game is coming out (no matter when) and do something else instead! :-)

    • To be fair, it is not really something they could afford to ignore. If UC4 didn’t have enough copies to meet demand, the net would implode.

I think, ND are just wanting to play it safe by ensuring that they have more then enough copies at launch to ensure that no-one gets annoyed.

  5. Two weeks more is nothing really.

  6. I don’t mind waiting an extra two weeks. There’s enough games on my plate anyway.

  7. They should’ve just released it digitally and kept back the physical release like Dying Light did. Or just release it fully and reap the extra money in from digital sales.

    • I know right? Like they going on like uncharted is going to sell out, talk about hype

      • The funny thing is I can’t remember the last time I tried to get a game and it was truly sold out everywhere I looked.

  8. Uncharted 4: The Last Guardian

  9. I am actually not upset by this at all. Mainly as this series became stale for me after the second one.

    • So by ‘series’ you actually only mean Uncharted 3? Unless you are counting The Golden Abyss as well. I think most people consider UC2 to be the pinnacle of the series, so perhaps the third would have felt stale to a lot of people. Personally, I enjoyed it. But don’t discount UC4, being on PS4 I would expect vast improvements.

      • I do mainly mean Uncharted 3, yes. But as a general, looking back over 1-3 they don’t really do much that I haven’t really seen before in other guises. I can appreciate the time I spent with the first two (which I enjoyed at the time), but have no urge to play any more.

I just don’t find the whole ‘run into an area, kill all enemies, look for historical artifacts before a climbing section, rinse & repeat’ fun anymore. its just too formulaic for me.

    • Walking around the desert was painful though. That and running through the endless Bazar whilst hallucinating.

Hallucinations in games are THE worst. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game where I actually enjoyed a hallucinating sequence. God of War 3, Life Is Strange, Uncharted 3, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, Arkham games (I’m sure there are more). Why do they keep doing it? Hallucinating in games is not fun.

  10. HOW DARE THEY DELAY THIS SO THAT THEY CAN MAKE SURE THERE IS ENOUGH COPIES TO SELL TO US! I WANT IT NOW! THOSE FURRY BAR STEWARDS! INSULT! INSULT! INSUUUUUUUUUUUUUULT!

Jokes aside, tis refreshing news to hear that a game is being delayed because they want to take precaution regarding the supply. Unless other publishers who have a release it now, patch in the content and eff other problems unless it bites them in the arse thus have to do something to please others attitudes.

Besides, tis 2 weeks difference. Enough time for the entire UC trilogy to be played. ;)

Do hope they won’t try to out do UC2 with set pieces. UC3 suffered from having too many set pieces and the ship level just felt like padding. That said, UC3 is still an excellent game.
