If you’re a football fan and a gamer, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve picked up the odd football game in your time. That being the case, Konami are really hoping that you’d like to buy another one this year, and preferably theirs, as opposed to the inevitable FIFA 18 that PES 18 will be going up against.
PES 2018 is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC – but not Switch – on 14th September, built around the concept that PES 2018 is “Where Legends are Made”. That’s a little hyperbolic in my opinion, but they’re aiming to make the game and players behave, move and react more like their real-life counterparts, with new additions to the control systems adding more fluidity, while the game will now have a more realistic pace.
There’s new strategic dribbling, which sounds better than the uncontrolled dribbling I can only presume came before, while “Real Touch + process” is a new thing to let players react to a ball using more parts of their body, bringing it under control with chest, head and legs, in addition to feet, but not hands. Never hands. That’s rugby football and American football, not football.
Visually, it should match up on all three platforms, but a new Real Capture system gives accurate lighting across all times of day and night, with licensed stadia such as Camp Nou and Signal Iduna Park having been faithfully recreated.
So, it’s more PES and it’s a little bit more football-y than last year. Sounds good to me.
