The Nintendo Switch Has Become The Fastest Selling Console Of All Time In The US

Coming off the failure that was the Wii U I don’t think anyone quite expected the Nintendo Switch to take off like it has. In fact today Nintendo announced that the Switch has become the fastest selling console of all time in the US since its launch.. There’s no doubt the convenience the console offers mixed with its library of quality games so far has resonated well with a broad audience.

According to Sarah Needleman of the Wall Street Journal  from launch until end of 2017 4.8 million Switch consoles had been sold. In comparison the Wii sold 4 million units in a similar time frame. Now Nintendo will be hoping that momentum carries on through 2018 and beyond.

    • But PS4 is better cos polygons!
In all seriousness this is fantastic news, the more competition in the market the better.

  2. Shipped or sold?

    • LOL

    • Wipe away the tears and try reading the article again.

      • I was laughing because of what Avenger said.

This just made me chuckle XD

  3. Sorry to say but the phrase “of all time” is stupid…except we know the future

    • “Of all current time, with no presumption towards future events of mankind or the impending insect wars” doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily.

    • “the Switch has become the fastest selling console of all time in the US since its launch.”

They said since launch so that’s reasonable.

  4. Well deserved. Hopefully Nintendo can keep the pace going in 2018.

  5. Amazing – i didn’t expect a gaming tablet hybrid to be so successful especially with the sparse launch library and the previous woes of the Wii U – but it’s worked out really well for them, nice job Nintendo!

    • Personally I really appreciated the sparse library at launch. Hands down my biggest issue with the Wii-U was it’s erratic release schedule – one month we would have 2 or 3 “must have” games then we wouldn’t see anything for 3-6months.

Releasing BotW alongside, well, nothing, was great as it gave people chance to pick up that game and devote 100% of their attention to it. 6 weeks or so later we then got MK8, another game which everyone was likely to pick up and put a decent amount of time into.

With the exception of releasing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in December (should have been a Jan/Feb 2018 game imo), their pacing has been almost perfect and I’m sure is a big reason why the console has such a high software attachment rate :)

  6. Amazing news!
