The movie based on the classic video game Asteroids is currently in production hell so it looks like it’s iconic stable mate, Pong, may reach the screen first, albeit a slightly smaller one. News reaches us that the 45 year old (!) video game is set to become the basis of a new TV show, Million Dollar Pong.
“’Pong’ is a cultural touchpoint for generations of people,” said veteran producer Scott Sternberg. “It’s not often we get the chance to develop a game show concept around such an iconic brand. I can’t wait to give people the chance to see, experience and play a brand new ‘Pong.’”
Sternberg has previously launched game show hits such as The Gong Show and Hollywood Squares, and Atari are on board with Jeff Mirkin serving as a producer.
“Our brand and our portfolio of games are known to many people around the world so it is a natural fit to bring them to television,” said Frédéric Chesnais, CEO of Atari.
