Get 25% Off A Year Of PlayStation Plus For Most Of March

You know how when you go to the shops and you see that something’s on offer – let’s say it’s coronation chicken and it’s BOGOF – but you look at the small print and discover that it’s only been at full price for one day in the last month? It kind of feels a little bit like Sony raised the price of PlayStation Plus last August, just so they could turn around every month or so and say “Hey! PS+ is on offer!”

As of today, and running for three weeks until 10AM GMT on 23rd March, you can get PlayStation Plus straight from the PS Store and through select retailers with 25% off. That makes it £37.50 instead of £49.99.

Now, there’s a good reason for this. Despite Sony having sold well over 70 million PlayStation 4 consoles, less than half of those are PS+ subscribers, with 31.5 million on the service. This month has got arguably the biggest and best set of free games since the launch of the PlayStation 4, with Bloodborne and the Ratchet & Clank remake, and Sony want to make hay while it lasts.

Still, £37.50 is a good price, so now’s as good a time as any to top up you subscriptions.

  1. Yes, there’s probably a good reason for the discount. But I don’t think it’s the one you claim.

More likely to be to try and make up for the announcement they’ll be giving 66% less games from next March, 6 months after putting the price up. (A price increase I wasn’t too bothered by, being the first in however many years)

    • I’m going to try and be optimistic and hope that they add more to the services or more games. I do feel like it is odd they have raised the price for no visible reason. Hopefully the games will be the quality of this month’s.

      • They’ve said nothing’s replacing the things we’re losing, but they’ve still got a year to change that.

And this month would be a terrible month if we were only getting 2 PS4 games.

Yes, Ratchet & Clank is fun, but I’ve already got it. And Bloodborne is just annoying. I’m all in favour of games being challenging, but not when it just becomes a tedious exercise in frustration.

So they’d be offering 2 games I’ve already got, 1 of which I regret buying.

And the 3 other games because of the cross-buy thing? We wouldn’t get those.

That would make it the worst month ever if the changes had happened this month.

On the other hand, if even every other month offered 1 game I hadn’t got and was interested in, that’d still be good value, especially with all the extra PS+ discounts they offer. Even just the discounts has easily covered the yearly cost, really.

  2. Well, they’ve probably got a strategy of locking in as many PS4 users as possible into the Playstation universe, by building up a backlog of decent Plus games before launching the PS5. If they make the PS5 play all PS4 games, which seems likely anyway, there will be even less reason to jump ship.
