With the pre-order page going up on Steam for Shenmue III, Ys Net also had to upload a handful of representative screenshots. While the game has sometimes struggled to look like a game from 2013, let alone 2017-19 during its development, it’s actually starting to look quite good. I think the geometry and texture work is probably still rather lacking by modern standards, but the lighting in particular seems to have taken a step forward.
There’s plenty of time for it to get even better, as well. The game was originally meant to come out in 2017, then got delayed to the end of 2018, and then again until the second half of 2019. That’s currently put as 27th August, so there’s a good 9 months and more to lavish the game with polish and refinement.
