Dreams update 2.08 is out, adding Welcome Garden Character Pack and a Blank Puppet

Media Molecule have pushed out an update for their latest creation-filled game, Dreams. Version 2.08 adds a few new bespoke creations from the developers, ways for users to then use that for the basis of their own creations, and a handful of other small tweaks and improvements.

Following on from the Welcome Garden Art Pack added in update 2.06 at the start of March, the Welcome Garden Character Pack adds a bunch of, well, characters that match the same style. There’s a couple of playable character, NPC and enemies for you to play around with.

Alternatively, you can use the first Blank Puppet, which Mm have created specifically for platforming style gameplay. You can obviously take that and use it however you see fit, using it as a blank canvas for creation instead of having to adapt one of the stylised characters.

Beside that there’s D-pad controls for the Dreamiverse, new tweaks for sun shadows, a slight reduction in audio recording time and more.

Here’s the patch notes:

What’s new?

  • Welcome Garden Character Pack – Our Welcome Garden Character Pack introduces two new playable characters, a non-playable character, and a handful of enemies. Enjoy using them in your creations – they mix perfectly with our Welcome Garden Art Pack!
  • New Blank Puppet – Our first new Blank Puppet is designed for platforming gameplay, and is the basis for our Welcome Garden characters.
  • Directional Button Controls for Dreamiverse – You can now navigate the Dreamiverse using the directional buttons on your controller.

Other improvements

  • New Tweak: On tweaking a stroke, you’ll find the Sun Shadow Scale vs Detail tweak. This lets you adjust sunlight shadows for the right balance between detail near the camera, and how far away from the camera shadows are cast.
  • Updated: Changes to audio recording. Recording time has been reduced to 15 seconds per clip.
  • Other minor tweaks and improvements.

We reviewed Dreams shortly after launch, sampling some of the many new experiences that player-creators were releasing into the wild. Jim wrote:

“Taking Media Molecule’s creative ethos to new heights, Dreams is a PlayStation essential. Booting the game up each time and having no idea what awaits is an intoxicating feeling. A remedy, forcing me from the rut of my predictable gaming habits to explore an inner creativity I’m often too lazy or wound up to let free.”

  1. “Recording time has been reduced to 15 seconds per clip.” Welp, that’s a drastic reduction from 3 minutes!
