Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is coming to Switch and PC in 2021

A sequel to Night School’s sci-fi, supernatural thriller and teen drama, Oxenfree II: Lost Signals has been announced for Nintendo Switch and PC. The game will be coming out in 2021.

Set five years on from the events of the original Oxenfree, Riley returns to her hometown of Camena in order to investigate another string of mysterious radio signals. In this regard, the game revolves around some of the same ideas as the first game, but it will certainly indulge in character moments and narrative alongside the puzzles. Riley did not feature in the original game, meaning this is a wholly new chapter.

Oxenfree first released in January 2016 for PC, coming to PS4, Xbox One, smartphone and Nintendo Switch over the following two years. It features a group of friends who manage to open a ghostly rift. It followed Alex, a teenager who brings her new stepbrother Jonas to an overnight party on an abandoned military island. As you deal with the weird supernatural events on the island, you also have to navigate conversations and relationships with the others in the group.

Night School followed Oxenfree up with Afterparty, a game about two college students who end up down in Hell and have to drink their way past every demon that stands in their way as they try to get back to the living world.

In our Afterparty review, Aran enjoyed the writing and the characters, but encountered a smattering of technical issues at launch:

Afterparty is a game with characters and writing, with the secondary characters often managing to outshine our two leads, Milo and Lola. Unfortunately a few technical issues with load times, stuttering and long periods of silence do suck some of the fun from Afterparty. Still, it’s worth playing if you like your character centred pieces.
