What We Played #617 The Expanse, Immortals of Aveum and Mortal Kombat 1

It’s been a whirlwind of a week for us at TSA, with a big part of that down to two of us being at Gamescom. We’ve played so many games that it’s hard to pick the best ones out, but I’m very excited for Bellwright, Mudrunner Expeditions and Mortal Kombat 1.

Tuffcub has not been playing Destiny 2. But he’s also been playing The Expanse and New Zealand Story. Which sounds like the best week ever frankly.

Nic B has been playing Duolingo and Sea of Stars. Gamoc meanwhile has been playing Hogwarts Legacy and almost finished the story. He says, “It’s shorter than I thought it would be when I first started. Realistically I should’ve gotten bored given how long it takes to get going but I think that fact that I grew up reading the books kept me going. I’ve also played Diablo IV once. My seasonal character is now the same level as my main. I’m a bit tired of it.”

Diablo 4 Free Journey

Aran smashed through Immortals of Aveum “which is the epitome of a 7/10 game”. He’s now playing Shadow Gambit The Cursed Crew for review

Reuben has been continuing to plug away at Pokémon Unite, trying to get Mega Mewtwo Y from the anniversary event that’s going on and realising “that I’m not very good at the game. Otherwise, I’ve finally got onto Houseflipper, which is a great game to switch off my brain to after stressful Unite games.”

To no one’s surprise, Nick P has been playing Street Fighter 6. He also got time in on Dead by Daylight and the newly released Texas Chainsaw Massacre “which I’m quite enjoying.”

Street Fighter 6 Manon

Steve also started off the week with some Texas Chainsaw Massacre and then (unrelatedly) got struck down by a nasty flu bug. It meant he missed out on a family holiday trip and instead took solace in ancient China with Wo Long which he says, “is mostly pretty accessible but has some roadblock bosses.”

What about you? What have you played?

  1. I’ve been thousands of miles away from my consoles over the last 5 weeks, as I was touring the West of the US with my family.
Related to gaming, I left my Vita at home, but I had a private tour of EA near Palo Alto, with a friend of ours who works there, and I can safely say it’s not the worst company in the world: I got an excellent Lunch there and their store offers some good quality things… ????

On the American Airlines flight, we binge-watched all 9 episodes of The Last of Us, as I have no access to it at home, and I liked it a lot. And in the lodge in Mesa Verde National Park, they had a classic arcade game machine, with Pac-Man and other games on it, which didn’t even require coins to play, so we had fun with that one evening.

Now being back, I played some Far Cry 5 for the US vibes, and I’m about to have a look at the games leaving Plus soon.

    • Sounds awesome! I was lucky enough to tour the EA studio in Redwood this year, and I can confirm it’s definitely not the worst company in the world. Was there a history section? In Redwood they had a whole area dedicated to each and every game they’ve ever released which was very cool!

      • It was actually Redwood, which is just around the corner from Palo Alto, and the history section with this huge wall covered with all EA games from the early days to now was indeed awesome..!

  2. I’ve found a way to get the different regional stacks for Lego DC Super Villains, so I’ve been playing the Japanese version. The store was a challenge to navigate and using circle to confirm but X to close has been confusing to get used to, but it’s all good.
Also watched the Women’s World Cup final last weekend, fell a little bit in love with Mary Earps and bought FIFA 23 as a result!

  3. Well, the last few weeks have been a bit crap, ending with my mum’s funeral on Tuesday.

And work has been chaos. When you’re packing 9000 books about Douglas Adams, weighing about 2kg each, and then moving them again to label them, your arms aren’t in much of a state for gaming. My wrists haven’t had that much exercise since I was a teenager!

So just bits and pieces of what I’ve been playing for weeks. And I may have treated myself to Diablo IV, which I’m loving. Just enough side quests to entertain while not massively distracting from the main story. And plenty of options to find a build that suits you. Unless you’re one of those people finds what the internet claims is the best build this week and sticks to it exactly. (Where’s the fun in that???)

Hopefully more time for games with this long weekend.

    • Oh, that’s really sad to hear. I hope you’re doing OK.

      • Thanks. It was expected and peaceful, but that still doesn’t make things much easier. And work was at least distracting for a bit. I’m doing fine, and the hard bits are out of the way now.

    • Really sorry to hear that dude – condolences from everyone here.

    • I’d just like to echo what the others have said, so sorry to learn about your mum and hope that things feel better soon.

    • I’m very sorry to hear and hope things get better for you and feel better soon.
