When the news hit this week that Vancouver based Hothead Games would not be continuing with their Penny-Arcade themed RPG ‘On The Rain-slick Precipice Of Darkness,’ many rued what they saw as the passing of one of gaming’s most audacious experiments – a game designed by gamers.
You may recall, however, that the announcement also mentions that the studio would instead be honing their focus on other properties, one such being the gloriously titled DeathSpank.
While the game is still somewhat under wraps, one new cool thing we now do know about it is that it will support 16 player local co-op support. No, no. I didn’t slip a “1” in there by mistake – you read that right. Six and teen.
Reported on their official site, the prodigious collaborative gaming orgy is described with the following:
“The team here at Hothead Games really went the extra kilometer by providing consumers with features that nobody would ever expect or indeed, even want. Now all your friends, family and guild members can enjoy DeathSpank at the same time with only moderate to slight eye strain. Naturally to ship the game with that level of co-operative play we were forced to make some concessions such as the fourth dimension. It is the sincere hope of everyone at Hothead Games to eventually provide Atari Jaguar support by next April 1st because seriously that thing was awesome.”
It’s a pity this is obviously an April Fool’s joke as 16 player local co-op actually sounds awesome. It’s not the only gaming April Fool’s gag we came across today, the news that a certain Sony Santa Monica employee was joining Valve to “help port over their existing and new games library to the PS3” particularly taking our fancy.
What hilarious gaming high jinks did you come across today?
